What happened in the 100-year gap the World Government erased? Who fought whom, and why?

The question

What happened during the 100-year Void Century — and what was the Ancient Kingdom the World Government erased?

Leading theories

Joy Boy’s Great Kingdom was a multi-racial liberation alliance

Fishfolk, Skyfolk, Minks, Giants, Lunarians — led by Davy Jones as king and Joy Boy as champion/pirate-figurehead. The WG-precursor coalition (the Twenty) won by deploying ancient weapons that flooded the world.

The Ancient Kingdom literally sat atop the Red Line

When defeated, the WG shattered/raised the continent to bury it. Sky islands and Fishman Island are remnants of populations displaced upward and downward.

The “Sin” was the Mother Flame / proto-Uranus

Vegapunk’s Mother Flame is a re-discovery of the original WMD that drowned the world.

Resolution

Partially resolved — the erased century is now known to have been a vast war between an advanced ancient kingdom and the 20 kingdoms that became the World Government, though its deepest content stays sealed.

  • The Void Century is a roughly 100-year span (~900–800 years ago) left blank because all its records were deliberately eliminated, recoverable only through poneglyphs scattered across the world — the crime Ohara was destroyed for studying (Ch. 392, Ch. 1114).
  • It was a “breathtakingly vast war” between a startlingly advanced ancient civilization and a provisional army of 20 allied kingdoms; the 20 won, became the World Government and the Celestial Dragons, and erased all trace of the loser (Ch. 1066, Ch. 1115, Ch. 722).
  • The war “came to a close with the defeat of Joy Boy,” the era’s central figure, born into that advanced kingdom (Ch. 1114, Ch. 1115).
  • The ancient kingdom’s technology rivaled or exceeded the present — surviving as relics like the Iron Giant Emet, a 900-year-old war-machine with an irreproducible power source (Ch. 1065, Ch. 1067, Ch. 1120).
  • The founding ties to the Nefertari line: Queen Lily was the 20th monarch who refused to become a Celestial Dragon and was scrubbed from the record (leaving only 19 weapons at the Empty Throne), and her “liberation of the poneglyphs” scattered the stones worldwide (Ch. 1084, Ch. 1085).
  • The complete truth has been decoded once — by the Roger Pirates at Laugh Tale, via the assembled poneglyph corpus and the Voice of All Things (Ch. 507, Ch. 967).

Still open: Who the ancient kingdom’s people were, the two warring ideologies, and the meaning of the D. clan within the conflict remain sealed.

Still open: How the newest Elbaf-era revelations — that “Elbaph is D,” that Davy D. Jones was once called “King of the World,” and an army of frozen ancient giants — fit the Void-Century picture is still unfolding (Ch. 1154, Ch. 1164, Ch. 1171).
