Chapter 275: Divina Commedia

Summary

On the ruins of Upper Yard, Wyper opens with his Burn Bazooka (a Flame-Dial weapon), but Enel — his lightning orbs (the tomoe drums made airborne) hovering around him — stops the bazooka’s flame outright and counters, declaring his energy is “lightning itself” (p. 2-9). Zoro tries to intervene and is blasted down; Enel philosophizes that overwhelming power breeds despair “not unlike death,” and that creatures bow before terror by instinct (p. 9-11). Wyper, refusing to surrender, levels his Reject Dial shooter point-blank and fires — and Enel, who had been mocking him, suddenly cannot summon his powers: the shooter has Sea-Prism Stone embedded in it (p. 11-14). A Shandian flashback follows: a Shandian woman recounts the history of Shandora to children — that 800 years ago the warriors of Shandora fought to protect the Poneglyph (“we are the ones who weave history… keep your mouth silent”), that the city’s gold was claimed by “the people of that land,” and that 400 years ago the island flew up to Skypiea; “Bring back the light of Shandora!!” (p. 14-16). In the present Enel recovers, downs Wyper, and Robin (the “weird knight” line refers to Gan Fall nearby) watches as Nami and Zoro despair. Enel closes the chapter with his creed: “People do not fear the kami… the kami IS fear.” (p. 17-19).

New reveals

• Enel’s power is “lightning itself.” Nami narrates it: “I heard thunder. The air must’ve expanded at the speed of light. It was that hot!! He really is lightning itself.” (p. 7). The first clear in-arc statement that Enel’s Goro Goro no Mi is electricity/lightning, not merely thunder-summoning. (Goro Goro no Mi named @0266; this chapter shows the lightning identity in combat.)
• “Vearth” / “Fairy Vearth” as Enel’s destination. Enel: “As I told you, we’ll now be shipping out to endless Vearth together.” and the Shandians scorn his “World of Dreams” (p. 7-8).
