Chapter 1171: Ragnir

Summary

In a flashback narrated by Chief Jarul, the truth of King Harald’s death is laid bare: the World Government’s newly-arrived Holy Knights manipulated Harald and, through a covenant sworn to Mu, granted him “even greater power and an immortal body,” turning him into an exceedingly rare — and monstrous — Ancient-Giant warrior fated to lay the world to ruin; he was then killed. In the Holy Land, Imu and the Five Elders brand Harald a heretic (for trying to connect Elbaf to other peoples) and declare “Elbaf is D” — the government’s enemy. To keep his father’s ideals from being undone, young Loki chose to take the public blame as “Loki the Father Slayer,” sailing off the island to avenge Harald against the WG — witnessed by a young Shanks (with Roger-crew companions) and shielded by Jarul’s plea for secrecy and clemency. In the present, Hajrudin finally understands, embraces his half-brother, and frees Loki from his chains. As Draugr — legendary undead — rage above Elbaf in numbers, the freed Loki takes up his hammer Ragnir and unleashes his lightning technique “Nibelheim,” to Luffy’s astonishment. (To be continued.)

New reveals

• The official patricide is a cover story. “Father chose death over the manipulations of the World Government… and continued to protect you” — Harald willingly died; Loki did not kill him for the throne/fruit. Loki let himself be seen as “Loki the Father Slayer” so Harald’s reforms wouldn’t be undone (pp. 10–12).
• Harald was made an immortal Ancient-Giant monster. He was “given even greater power… and an immortal body,” “an exceedingly rare Ancient Giant warrior,” “nothing short of a monster,” his wounds “healed themselves”; Jarul’s “terrible vision” was of Harald “venturing forth from this castle… and laying waste to the world until it was nothing but ruins” (pp. 2, 6).
• The monster was killed — the WG doesn’t know by whom. “And thou sayest it was killed?!” “By whom?! What is in Elbaph?!!”; “Harald’s Abyss in Elbaph remains intact… We shall have it investigated” (p. 6).
• The covenant costs Mu. “Performing the covenant inflicts a cost upon Mu as well!! It will only be the death of more knights” (p. 6).
• “Elbaf is D.” Imu/Five Elders: Harald was a “heretic” for connecting Elbaf “to other lands and peoples”; “Our kinds are incompatible”; “Never forget… that Elbaph is D!!!” And, per Loki’s takeaway, “the government has been Elbaph’s enemy… ever since then” (pp. 6–7, 12).
