- Rafuteru (ラフテル) — the canonical Oda-romanization revealed in *One Piece Stampede* and Ch. 967 is **Laugh Tale**. The katakana ラフテル is *exactly* how English 'Laugh Tale' is rendered in Japanese phonetics (R↔L interchangeable; *rafu-teru* = *laugh-tale*). For ~20 years fans/VIZ romanized it as *Raftel* because the meaning was hidden. **Roger named the final island *Laugh Tale*** because the truth he learned there about Joy Boy / the One Piece / the Void Century was, in his judgment, a *funny story* — a laugh-out-loud cosmic joke. The name itself is a **20-year buried-in-plain-sight pun**: every Roger-pirate utterance of *Raftel* was actually them saying *Laugh Tale*. The pun is also etymologically a foreshadowing — the *funny-story* register pre-loads Luffy's Nika/Joy-Boy laughing-warrior reveal.

Profile
The last island of the Grand Line. First named on-page in Ch. 105 page 8 by Crocus. Only the Roger Pirates are known to have reached it. Goal-island of every Grand Line pirate. The what is there question is hedged with perhaps (Crocus, page 9).
The chapter installs Raftel as the structurally-determined funnel-endpoint of the Grand Line — all seven magnetic routes converge here (cf. Seven Grand Line Routes). The geometry is the physical-geography correlate of the all-pirates-arrive-at-Roger’s-prize narrative thesis.
Etymology
Raftel — opaque etymology at first appearance. The name is rendered in katakana (ラフテル) which can transliterate from English “laugh-tale” or be a constructed name. The raft- prefix may encode the raft-as-mythic-pirate-vessel register; -tel may echo tale (story) or Tell (Swiss-archer / heroic-marksman).
Forward-canon: post-Wano chapters rename Raftel to Laugh Tale, retroactively confirming the laugh-tale etymology. The laughed-at-what-they-found register (Roger’s crew, Ch. 967) is the payoff to the name itself.
