Name meaning
Arabasuta (アラバスタ) = English 'alabaster' — a fine-grained pale stone (gypsum/calcite) historically used for sculpture and carved vessels, especially in ancient Egypt (Egyptian alabaster vases, sarcophagi). The kingdom is Egypt-coded throughout (Nefertari = pharaonic queen name, Karoo = Heb. for sun-god lineage tells, Sandora = Nile-analog, Alubarna mesa-cliff city evokes Petra/Luxor); 'alabaster' encodes both the sand/stone civilization aesthetic and the funerary/royal-tomb register that pre-loads the Poneglyph-keeper / Void Century lineage reveal.

Grand Line · the desert sand-kingdom · home of the Nefertari D. royal line · Vivi’s homeland · Imu’s stated target-kingdom (per Imu Identity)

Profile

The desert sand-kingdom of the Grand Line ruled by the Nefertari D. royal line (Nefertari D Family). King Cobra is the modern monarch; Princess Vivi is the heir. The kingdom is encoded with ancient-Egyptian architectural and naming-aesthetics (sand-coloured palaces, hieroglyph-style heraldry, pharaonic naming-convention).

As of Ch. 112, the kingdom is not yet visited on-page; it is referenced as the destination of Vivi’s escape from Whisky Peak and as the target of Baroque Works’ assassination-mission against the princess.

Etymology

Alabasta — likely a portmanteau of alabaster (the white mineral stone associated with ancient Egyptian sculpture) + Arabia / Arabasta (loose phonetic gesture toward the Arabian peninsula / desert kingdoms). The name encodes the kingdom’s two dominant aesthetic registers: white-stone palace architecture and desert-Arabia geography.

The royal family-name Nefertari is the Egyptian-queen-name encoding (Queen Nefertari Meritmut, principal wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II). Per Volume 17 SBS, Oda confirms ancient Egypt as the direct model for Alabasta.

Key chapters

East Port Tamarisk named (Ch. 216)

  • East Port Tamarisk — the harbor from which the Straw Hats depart Alabasta — is named on-page (p. 10 location card). Establishes a coastal departure-port distinct from Nanohana (the arrival port). Continuity: the eastern port Tamarisk was first named at Ch. 212 (p. 14, Smoker/Hina’s offshore rendezvous); Ch. 0216 re-keys it as East Port Tamarisk, the Strawhat departure-harbor and site of the iconic X-mark farewell salute.
