Saul
Jaguar D. Saul · castaway giant · bears the “D.” · D · debuts Ch. 392
Profile
A castaway giant who washes up beached on Ohara’s shore in the flashback (~20 years before the present). Befriends the child Nico Robin and teaches her his survival ethos — “when you’re hurting, laugh.” Bears the D. middle initial (“Jaguar D. Saul”), placing a giant in the D. clan. @0396 his Marine past lands on-page: he is the giant ex-Vice Admiral of the Marines whom Olvia once nursed back to health after his shipwreck; offered one of the five Vice-Admiral commands of the Ohara Buster Call, he refuses on principle and deserts to save Olvia and her daughter. (Full surname “Jaguar D. Saul” is on-page @0392; @0396 he is named only “Saul” / “Vice Admiral Saul.” He has NO devil fruit — the ice is Kuzan’s.)

Etymology
- Surface: サウロ (Sauro) = the given name Saul — the Hebrew name of the biblical King Saul (first king of Israel; Latin/Spanish Saulo → サウロ). The surname Jaguar (ハグワール Haguwāru) follows the Spanish pronunciation of “jaguar” (the j sounded as h), which is why fan translations rendered it “Hagwar”/“Hagwal” before the official spelling settled.
- On-page surfacing: the name enters the manga first as a sound — child Robin’s distressed cry “Stop, Saul!! Fire!” Ch. 391 p. 11 — one chapter before the character is shown (Ch. 392). Classic Oda name-planting; see Saul Name Spoken In Child Robins Ohara Flashback Cry.
- Confidence: high (given name); the surname’s Spanish-pronunciation basis is Fandom-documented. Source: One Piece Wiki Jaguar D. Saul; Wikipedia Saul (given name).

Fire!” inset — a teaser of this same flashback scene, filed as Saul Name Spoken In Child Robins Ohara Flashback Cry); first SHOWN Ch. 392.status: aliveis his in-flashback state only; do NOT pre-judge his on-page fate.
