Name-dropped by the Meowban Brothers (Sham/Buchi) as the world’s metonym for pirate-death: ‘We sent many a rival crew down to see Davy Jones!!’ First on-page invocation of the name in the vault’s chapter index. Confirms that the Davy Jones legend is in-world common-vernacular among East Blue pirates by chapter 33 — i.e., even ordinary mid-tier East Blue pirate-officers know Davy Jones as the standard pirate-death euphemism . The mid-arc-villain crew using “see Davy Jones” as a throwaway-mook-line establishes that the legend’s penetration into pirate-vernacular predates the protagonist’s career and is deep-time-canonical — the name is already-mythologised in the in-world pirate culture by the time the series begins.
