Summary
Four fronts, no Imu present-day. (1) Sea Cloud Port, Zoro. Black lightning crackles off Zoro’s blades around a moored Viking longship (p.2). He grins “Heh… I’ve got it now!!” and the long-haired, spiked-guard-sword Knight he’s fighting (the Shepherd-family Gram wielder of Ch. 1189, carried as Sommers; uncaptioned this chapter) loses his nerve: “My life is over!! It’s over!!” (p.3), then “Stay away from meeee!!!” (p.4). Zoro, sword in mouth, cuts him down (“After all of that…” “ZWIP!!” “ZZAT”), and the Knight’s “AAA-AAGH…” trails off under a hillside detonation (pp.3–4). (2) “Team Brook, Branch Route.” Brook, Nami, Jinbei and a horn-helmed giant face the thawed Holy Knight Gunko, masked, panting and on one knee (pp.5–6). Brook asks her name; her mind floods with flashes: Brook alive, a crying young woman screaming “Father!!”, a bloodied bearded man (“This is madness!!!”), a hooded shadow with glowing eyes, “I want to live!!” over a ringed eye, and ”…Great Imu…” (p.6). Brook recalls a horned, bloodied Shuri saying “The war’s going to be over, Brook… aren’t you happy?” and offers a new reading: “Back on that terrible day, I thought you had committed an unforgivable sin!! But… if what happened was against your will… it was agonizing to you too, wasn’t it?!” (p.7). He introduces himself, “the Knight Commander for the Kingdom of Esperia, Humming Brook!”, and names her “Shuri, the onetime princess of Esperia!!” (p.8). She tries to answer and winces as an archaic voice speaks over a throne-hall memory: “What wilt thou do in Elbaph? There will be no king as useful as Harald was… But I require strength. Turn the giants into battle-slaves.” Then: ”…Gunko… of the World Noble Manmayer Clan!!!” (p.8). Brook sings her his old refrain, “Cows and frogs and slaves and kings ♪ … We’re all bones when…”. She weeps, a young Shuri flashes up (“I love all your songs, Brook!!”), and she slashes at him: “Silence!! Stay away from me!!!” / “I do not know you!!” Brook: “Look! Even that stance of yours!! I taught it to you! Remember?!” (p.9). (3) The Owl Library. In the “Secret Chamber Around Back,” with Nico Robin and a hatted giant listening, Biblo finally hoots out his message and Chopper translates: “He says, I’ll keep it simple. A long, long time ago… a human by the name of Lily lived on this island.” Robin: “Lily?” (p.10). (4) Western Village. The God of Rain is still carrying off giant children (“There are still four of them!!”) while parents and friends chase: “Hang on, Ylva!!”, “Don’t cry, Collun!!”, “We’re almost there, Johanna!!”, “Miss Angeee!!”, “Ultrarare Bjorn!! … my supreme oshi!!!” (p.11). Its rider: “Bwa ha ha ha!! Onward, God of Rain!!” / “Sommers awaits us at the port!!” (p.12). Nearby a bleeding Sanji keeps getting up against the kirin-form Rimoshifu Knight (carried as Killingham). He fires Ifrit Jambe (p.12) and “Sky Table… Kick Course!!!” (pp.13–14), and none of it sticks: “You lack the color of the Supreme King!!!” The Knight runs him through again and again with “the Spear of Holy Life, Longinus… the spear that helped create the world,” finishing on “…is God’s Lightning!!!” (pp.14–15). On the ground, Sanji hears the old man of Ch. 1187 again (“you possess a streak of masochistic instability. However, for some reason…”) and a remembered Luffy (“Getting killed is no way to repay your debt!!”), and admits “I thought I could just sacrifice myself and everything would be perfectly fine!!” (pp.15–16). Stabbed again (“What do you even live off of? Down in the lower world…”), he tries to shut out a memory he has kept locked away: “Stay out!! Go away!!! … I’ve been trying to keep the door shut on those memories!!” The chapter ends on that memory, a full-face, uncaptioned Ivankov at a microphone: “That you are suffering… from a crippling weakness!!! Hee-haaaaw!!!” (p.17). To be continued!
New reveals
- Zoro has found the answer to an immortal Knight. “I’ve got it now!!” (p.2), black lightning running along his blades (pp.2–4). The Shepherd-family Knight’s reaction is terror rather than regeneration: “My life is over!! It’s over!!” (p.3), “Stay away from meeee!!!” (p.4). (Inference: black lightning is the series’ visual for strikes infused with the color of the Supreme King, which Ch. 1170 named as the Holy Knights’ one weakness. The page does not say the Knight dies.)
- The same rule, said aloud to Sanji: “You see?! Wa ha ha ha! You just don’t have it! You lack the color of the Supreme King!!!” (p.13). He also tells Sanji “Wa ha ha ha! When will you learn to accept… …a truth that you cannot change, peon?!! It hurts to learn your own weakness, doesn’t it?!” (p.14).
- Longinus, VIZ epithet: “As much as it hurts to be pierced over and over by the spear that helped create the world!! The Spear of Holy Life, Longinus…” (p.14). This VIZ-attests the “Spear of Holy Life” gloss that the vault struck in 2026-09 as a TCB-only translator note.
- Killingham’s line “…is God’s Lightning!!!” (p.15) goes with a beam-like spear thrust (“ZMMF!!”) that runs Sanji through. Read right-to-left, it completes the p.14 run “The Spear of Holy Life, Longinus… …is God’s Lightning!!!”, so the Knight calls the spear (or this thrust) “God’s Lightning”; whether that is a formal technique name is unclear.
- Killingham’s forms, both shown: the kirin beast-head with gas mask (pp.12–14), and a centaur-like kirin body with a human torso and a black-haired head inside a spherical bubble helmet (pp.16–17). The bubble helmet settles the vault’s “bomb/mine-shaped head-piece — verify” note.
- New Sanji technique: “SKY TABLE!!!” (p.13, upward kick into the kirin’s face, “MBWAH!!!”) → “KICK COURSE!!!” (p.14, a flurry of “GAK” kicks, “GWAAAA!!!”). It reads as one callout split across the sequence, built like his old Party Table Kick Course. Ifrit Jambe (p.12) is reused.
- The old man’s verdict returns verbatim: “You should have the potential for it… …you possess a streak of masochistic instability. However, for some reason…” (p.15). It’s a memory voice over a white-haired old man in round dark glasses with a fur collar. Sanji: “What was that supposed to mean, old man?!” / “‘Masochistic’…?!” This is the Ch. 1187 speaker, whom the vault calls “the old giant chief” (not VIZ-verified; uncaptioned here).
- Sanji’s self-diagnosis: “I’ve never thought of myself as being self-sabotaging… I thought I could just sacrifice myself and everything would be perfectly fine!!” A montage of past declarations precedes it: “Go!!!” / “I’m not afraid to start pushing up daisies!!!” / “Now go!!!” (p.16). The scenes are uncaptioned.
- Sanji’s locked memory is Ivankov. On a heart-decorated stage before a cheering crowd, a fishnet-clad performer sings “Warning you over ♪ and over ♫ again, Sanji my boy ♡” / “Mmmwa ha ha, I’ve been warning you ♡”. The final full-face panel is Ivankov’s design (star lashes, heavy lips, curly mane) with his “Hee-haaaaw!!!” laugh: “That you are suffering… from a crippling weakness!!!” (p.17). Uncaptioned; the ID rests on design and catchphrase. The setting reads as Kamabakka, also uncaptioned. What the “weakness” is goes unsaid.
- Brook’s VIZ title: “I was once the Knight Commander for the Kingdom of Esperia, Humming Brook! For certain reasons, I passed away 50 years ago… but I still live on as nothing but bones!” (p.8). Compare the @1183 “Leader of the Raider Squad” and @1184 “Commander” titles.
- Brook offers Shuri a way out: “if what happened was against your will… it was agonizing to you too, wasn’t it?!” (p.7). Brook’s supposition, not established fact.
- Gunko names herself: “My name is…” (WINCE) … “My name—!” … ”…Gunko… …of the World Noble Manmayer Clan!!!” (p.8). VIZ says “Clan,” where the vault has “family.” She calls herself a World Noble.
- An archaic voice cuts into her answer over a memory of a throne hall: a stepped dais rising to a throne, two cloaked figures at its foot, a horned cross-quartered circle emblem on a black banner, and a heartbeat (“B-BMP!”). It says: “What wilt thou do in Elbaph? There will be no king as useful as Harald was… But I require strength. Turn the giants into battle-slaves.” (p.8). The “thou/wilt” register is Imu’s on-page voice, and the same memory-run names “Great Imu” (p.6). The speaker is still uncaptioned on p.8.
- Gunko’s memory-flashes (p.6): Brook alive (afro, grinning), a close-up of Shuri’s eye, “Bro!!” (an uncaptioned man), a tall hooded shadow with glowing eyes (“SHEEEENG!!!”, “GRRG”), “This is madness!!!” (a bloodied bearded man, likely King Reuven, uncaptioned), “Father!!” (a crying young blonde woman, likely Shuri, uncaptioned), “I want to live!!” beside a concentric-ringed eye, and a hooded silhouette standing over a fallen body: ”…Great Imu…”.
- Brook taught Shuri her sword stance: “Look! Even that stance of yours!! I taught it to you! Remember?!” (p.9). Gunko answers “I do not know you!!” while tears run down her face.
- Brook’s refrain from Ch. 1184 comes back in the present: “‘Cows and frogs and slaves and kings’! ♪ ‘We’re all bones when’…” (p.9). Gunko weeps, and a flash of young Shuri says “I love all your songs, Brook!!” An off-panel “But… no…” (Gunko, judging by placement) follows.
- Biblo’s message, opening line: “A long, long time ago… a human by the name of Lily lived on this island.” (p.10), translated by Chopper. Captions: “Secret Chamber Around Back” · “The Owl Library.” An unseen speaker asks: “This is what’s been here for centuries…?” No surname is given for Lily. Linking her to Nefertari D Lily is inference only. Per the name-pins she is never Lily, the Bellamy crewmember.
- The child abduction goes on (p.11, caption “Western Village”): “There are still four of them!!” / “How many children are left?!” Named chasers and captives: Ylva (whose giant elder is called “Great-great grandpa!!”), Collun (“I’m sorry, Mommy!!”), Johanna, Ange (“Miss Angeee!!”), Bjorn (the crying child shouting “Big bwud-derrr!!”, hailed by his striped-scarf older brother: “Ultrarare Bjorn!! I would give my life to save you, my supreme oshi!!!”).
- The God of Rain answers to a rider (p.12): “Bwa ha ha ha!! Onward, God of Rain!!” / “Sommers awaits us at the port!!” The spear-carrying rider is uncaptioned: long curly hair, a band across the eyes, Omen black flames. Possibly the shark-toothed “let’s go, Zaza!!” abductor of Ch. 1183; inference.
- Killingham on the giants: “Soon the giants of Elbaph will be our mighty servants… and then all will be—!!!” (p.13; Sanji kicks him mid-sentence). He also admits Celestial-Dragon ignorance: “What do you even live off of? Down in the lower world… don’t know a thing about that. You said you’re a cook, Sanji…?” (p.17).

Open questions raised
- What is Sanji’s “crippling weakness”? Ivankov names it but doesn’t say what it is. Is it the self-sacrifice reflex he admits to on p.16, or something else?
- Can Sanji reach the color of the Supreme King, the only thing that seems to hurt these Knights, before Longinus finishes him?
- What exactly did Zoro “get” (“I’ve got it now!!”)? Does the Shepherd-family Knight die, or only fear dying?
- Who was Lily of Elbaf, and why does the Owl Library’s centuries-old secret chamber start its story with her? Is she Nefertari D Lily? (Inference only.)
- Who said “There will be no king as useful as Harald was,” and to whom? Who are the two cloaked figures at the foot of the throne?
- Who shouts “Bro!!” in Gunko’s memory, and who is the hooded, glowing-eyed figure beside the bloodied king?
- Was the Esperia patricide “against [Shuri’s] will,” as Brook now hopes?
- Who is the God of Rain’s rider, and what waits for the four remaining children at the port with Sommers?
- Who is the old man who told Sanji about his Supreme-King potential? The vault’s “old giant chief” label comes from a non-VIZ source; the VIZ 1195 panel shows a white-haired man in round dark glasses.
- Is “God’s Lightning” a named Longinus technique, and how does a kirin connect to lightning?
