Chapter 1159: The Island of Fate

Summary

A history-flashback chapter. 39 years ago on Pirate Island Fullalead, the beloved former Kuja Empress Shakuyaku is kidnapped in a lightning raid — Don Marlon and the whole security team are killed — and the world’s economy stalls in grief. One year later at God Valley (West Blue), Figarland Garling reunites with the mother of his infant twins Shamrock and Shanks, only to announce he will “win the competition” and take a special-ordered wife — then a silhouetted figure strikes the mother down by the babies’ carriage. The Celestial Dragons’ Navy surrounds and arrests God Valley’s natives; young Navy sailor Dragon refuses to kill and flees. Slave children — among them young Ginny — riot aboard a Navy prison ship. Young Morgans leaks the scoop that Shakky is alive at God Valley to Pirate Island, and the news sets every great pirate in motion: the Rocks Pirates (Kaido, Linlin) and the Roger Pirates (Roger, Gaban) all race for God Valley. Aboard the Rocks ship, Rocks privately tells King Harald of Elbaf his hidden name — Davy D. Xebec, of the Davy Clan, descendants of the legendary pirate Davy D. Jones — and that God Valley is his homeland, where his wife and child hide. Harald, ordered by the government to stop Rocks, refuses to lend aid, and Rocks attacks his ship. As the manhunt opens, the Celestial Dragons display Shakuyaku as the grand prize, and announce two special targets found “after 800 years”: the Buccaneer boy (a “super rare rabbit”) and — the whole point of God Valley — THE DAVY CLAN. Young Teech is led to safety amid the slaughter.

• God Valley Incident, the pirates’ side (38–39 yrs ago). The Fullalead kidnapping of Shakuyaku (39 yrs ago, p. 2) and the God Valley manhunt (38 yrs ago, “one year later,” pp. 4, 16) are two ends of one WG operation.
• The Celestial Dragons’ manhunt mechanic: “once every three years… the Celestial Dragons choose an island rich in resources and unaffiliated with the government… and carry out a MANHUNT game there, slaughtering all the natives” (p. 15).
• Shakuyaku = the grand prize. “Her name is Shakuyaku!! The previous Empress of the Amazons, praised as the most beautiful woman in the world… hailing from the Isle of Women within the Calm Belt of the Grand Line” (p. 16). Celestial Dragons bid to take her “for a wife or make her a slave.”
• Rocks’s hidden name: Davy D. Xebec. “It’s the name of a clan the World Government has long tried to cover up… the descendants of the legendary pirate, Davy D. Jones… we took root in the criminal underworld” (p. 13). God Valley is Rocks’s homeland; two years earlier he had a child and sent his wife + child there to seek the Davy Clan (p. 14).
• The Davy Clan is the WG’s 800-year quarry. God Valley’s special manhunt targets: the Buccaneer boy (a “super rare rabbit”) and “another target found at long last, after 800 years… every World Noble is aware of them… THE DAVY CLAN!!!” (p. 17).
• Garling fathered Shamrock & Shanks. He is presented the infant twins by their mother at God Valley (p. 4), then abandons them — “all I have to do to make her mine is to win this competition… I’ve already special-ordered a wife who is befitting of me” (p. 4). A silhouetted figure then strikes the mother down beside the babies’ carriage (p. 5).
• Young Dragon was a Navy sailor at God Valley. Caption: “Navy Sailor Monkey D. Dragon (future Revolutionary Army commander and father of Luffy)” (p. 7). He uses only tranquilizer rounds, rejects the doctrine that “individual thoughts only distract from the will of the group” (p. 6), and leaves the island.
• The great pirates converge. Morgans leaks the “Shakky is alive at God Valley” scoop from a Cipher Pol intel source to Pirate Island (pp. 9–10); the Rocks Pirates (Kaido, Linlin) and Roger Pirates (Roger, Gaban) both move for God Valley (pp. 10–11).
