Summary

The Enies Lobby narrative cuts fully into the Ohara flashback (~20 years ago, West Blue). A young Nico Robin at Ohara’s Tree of Knowledge is warned that a “navy battleship” is bound for the island; she asks whether her absent mother has returned. World Government agents storm the research center, charging the scholars with “the grave crime of researching the Poneglyph,” brand them “demons who desire the destruction of the world,” and order all unaffiliated townsfolk to evacuate to the West Coast. The operation’s leader — the Director (Spandine) — is grazed by a pistol shot and theatrically declares himself a goner, ordering that “my son should fill my position as Director.” His attacker is revealed as Nico Olvia, Robin’s mother, an escaped prisoner who returns to Ohara. Spandine lays out the WG’s true aim: Ohara will be destroyed as an example to “everyone what happens to people who research the 100-year void,” and warships open fire (Buster Call) on the northwest coast (Saul’s location). Robin refuses the evacuation ship to stay with the scholars; she and Olvia reunite. An explosion uncovers the Poneglyph in an underground chamber beneath the Tree of Knowledge, and the Director confirms the scholars’ death penalty. Professor Clover pleads to at least report their hypothesis about the 100-year void to the Five Elders before they are killed.
