Chapter 1189: King of the World

Summary

Luffy is left gasping and depleted after a single hit from Imu; on the surface Usopp senses Luffy’s Haki suddenly weaken and the crew (Nami, Usopp, Hajrudin’s group) argues over whether he’ll be fine. Chopper (Guard Point) shields Brook’s team, who reach the frozen, thawing Princess Shuri. Imu, wielding the black Nemesis greatsword, pins the paralyzed Loki, addresses Luffy by name (“Monkey D. Luffy… such a detestable name to Mu”), and taunts him about his “two elder siblings who go by different names” — one a Revolutionary Army officer (Sabo), one “a brother slain by the Navy” (Ace). Imu then unleashes a barrage of named blades — Fragarach, Xingtian, Gram, Longinus, then Tohu, Bohu, Stigma, Muramasa, Nemesis — revealing they are the 19 World Weapons the 19 founding kings placed around the Empty Throne 800 years ago as their vow of equality; “when the Great One revived us with Omen, he granted us access to them” through the great houses. Zoro is handed one of these to fight (Sanji present). In a Shanks flashback, an enraged Loki demands revenge for Harald; Shanks reveals the true culprit — “the one who tried to use Harald… is King of the World” — a hidden sovereign above the World Government whose power is immeasurable, whom someone “managed to reach once.” In the present, Loki resolves to seize the perfect chance to strike the King of the World. Robin, Saul, and Chopper reunite briefly. The chapter closes as “the left wing of the Pirate King” — Scopper Gaban — arrives at the battlefield.

• Imu addresses Luffy by full name — “Monkey D.
