Etymology

• Surface: クローバー (Kurōbā) = “clover.” The three-leaf clover / shamrock is a national symbol of Ireland — the same Ireland theme that runs through his home island Ohara (オハラ = the Irish surname “O’Hara”). Oda names Ohara’s people for that motif.
• Pun layer: the Fandom etymology connects his surname to the Claíomh Solais (“sword of light” in Irish/Scottish Gaelic folktale — クラウ Kurau / “Clou”), and to a “cloud / cloudy” pun.
• Confidence: high for the clover→shamrock→Ireland layer (Fandom + Vivre Card); medium for the Claíomh Solais / cloud pun (depends on the forward full name). Source: One Piece Wiki Clou D. Clover trivia.
