Summary
In the underground poneglyph chamber beneath Alubarna, Nico Robin reads the Alabasta poneglyph aloud to Crocodile — but recites only the kingdom’s dynastic history (the Bitein dynasty taking the throne in 260, Kahira conquered by Alabasta in 239, the Great Taph Temple completed in 306). When Crocodile, enraged, demands the location of “the most destructive weapon in the world,” Robin tells him “This is just a history of the kingdom” and that there is “no mention at all of the Pluton.” Crocodile declares Robin an excellent partner but reveals their four-year deal — she leads him to the poneglyph, he gives her Pluton intel — has come to an end, and moves to kill her. Robin retaliates by splashing water on him to break his sand-body and stabs him with a knife (“If water is splashed on you, then this knife can cut you!”); Crocodile vanishes (sand-body), forgives her “for everything,” and runs her through with his hook. He declares he never trusted anyone from the start, that he’ll find Pluton himself once Alabasta is his, and — because “I know from Cobra’s reaction that the Pluton does indeed exist” — destroys a single load-bearing column to collapse the chamber, intending to entomb both Robin and Cobra alive while he escapes. Aboveground, the clock ticks toward the cannonball strike; Vivi, Koza and the others race to find the hidden cannon. Usopp fires a smoke-star (“Red Serpent Star!!”) to mark the spot once Vivi deduces the cannon must be in a single huge secluded space. Meanwhile Luffy — buried deep underground by Crocodile’s earlier blow — wakes from an accidental nap, climbs back up to the surface, and faces Crocodile again, declaring he’s going to blast him as he eyes a suspicious hole that looks “Crocodile-ish.”
