Chapter 497: Adventure on the Archipelago of Dancing Soap Bubbles

Summary

On Sabaody Archipelago, the Straw Hats split up to sightsee while Hatchan (in disguise) guides Luffy, Nami, Robin, Chopper, Brook, Camie, and Pappag through the soap-bubble town and warns them, above all, not to draw attention — Navy HQ is near, human traffickers roam, and the World Nobles must never be opposed. The crew plays with the island’s signature soap bubbles and bubble bikes while Pappag explains the resin only works inside the Yarukiman Mangroves’ climate. The mood breaks when a runaway slave, the pirate captain “Devil Dias,” begs the crowd to cut off his exploding collar — and is blown apart when he tries to flee. As panic clears the streets, the Celestial Dragons themselves arrive: Saint Roswald and his daughter Saint Shalria, who keep enslaved pirate captains as a “collection,” casually shoot and whip them in the street, and demand more slaves. The chapter closes on the bystanders explaining that harming a Celestial Dragon brings a Navy Admiral down on you, and that these are the descendants of the twenty kings who founded the World Government 800 years ago — the blood of the creators.
