Chapter 1086: The Five Elders

Summary

In the aftermath of the Reverie, the world reels from the news of King Cobra’s assassination and Princess Vivi’s disappearance, with the Straw Hat ally Sabo (“the Sabo fellow”) framed for the regicide; royals — including a fleeing Wapol aboard the Bigis Kingdom ship and a starving princess of the Tajine Kingdom — scatter for home (pp. 3–6). In a flashback to the Chamber of Flowers at Pangaea Castle, all five Gorosei are named individually with their “Godhead” portfolios, and the shadowed sovereign Imu chooses to field-test the Mother Flame — Vegapunk’s creation — on the Kingdom of Lulucia, “because there are many people there,” and orders Vivi captured (pp. 6–10). At the Revolutionary Army’s base, Sabo recounts the whole ordeal to Dragon and Ivankov: how he recruited Lulucia’s people (with Betty), watched the kingdom annihilated by a “great shadow” from the sky as he relayed a call home, and — putting the pieces together — names the figure on the throne as Imu of the Nerona Dynasty, one of the original twenty who created the world 800 years ago, theorizing the sky-weapon was a government weapon, perhaps an Ancient Weapon (pp. 11–14). The chapter closes “in the present day” at Sacred Mariejois, where a Celestial Dragon — St. Donquixote Mjosgard — is executed for protecting the fish-men by St. Figarland Garling, Supreme Commander of the Holy Knights and a God Valley veteran (p. 15).
