Name meaning
'Adam' references the Biblical first man — an origin / genesis tag: Adam Wood is the world's strongest, near-indestructible timber, the genesis material of history's greatest ships (the Oro Jackson and the Thousand Sunny). VIZ on-page caption: 'The Jewel Tree, Adam.'

Structural lore — the legendary indestructible wood. The crew’s next ship-of-dreams build is tracked at Franky Adam Wood Ship Of Dreams Build Offer; the Pirate-King ship tie is at Oro Jackson.

The Jewel Tree Adam (VIZ on-page caption “The Jewel Tree, Adam.”) is, per Franky’s legend (Ch. 431 pp. 12–13), a one-of-a-kind tree that grows on a far-off war-torn island. It “can’t be chopped down,” and survives whether the people around it fight wars and rain cannonballs from the sky or die off and leave ruins — “people gather around it and create nations.” It is “the strongest tree in the world,” with only a few such trees in existence; its wood is sold on the black market at extreme prices (Franky spent ~200 million berries — the Straw Hats’ confiscated treasure — on a quantity of it). Gold Roger’s ship the Oro Jackson — “the one ship that ever managed to go around the world” — was built from this wood (p. 15). Franky intends to build the Straw Hats a “ship of dreams that can overcome any ocean” from it.

What we know

  • Ch. 431 p.
  • Ch. 431 pp. 12–13 — grows on a far-off war-torn island; cannot be cut down; survives war and ruin; “people gather around it and create nations”; “the strongest tree in the world,” only a few exist; its wood is sold on the black market.
  • Ch. 431 p. 13 — Franky secretly bought a quantity of the wood (~200 million berries) to build the Straw Hats a ship.
  • Ch. 431 p. 15 — Gold Roger’s Oro Jackson (“the one ship that ever managed to go around the world”) was built from this wood — welding the legendary material to the Roger era and the Tom→Franky shipwright lineage.
  • Ch. 439 pp. 9, 13 — Franky builds the Straw Hats’ new flagship, the Thousand Sunny, from this Adam Wood; the wood’s durability is the structural basis that lets the ship survive the Coup de Burst aerial launch (“combining the air cannon and the durability of the Adam Wood”). The Adam-wood “ship of dreams” Franky offered @0431 is now realized.
  • Ch. 604 p. 17 — post-timeskip, Jewel Tree Adam wood is invoked as the reason the Thousand Sunny can survive the abyssal downwelling-current dive toward Fish-Man Island — “she’s the ultimate ship.” Reinforces Adam wood as the strongest shipbuilding timber (the Oro Jackson / Sunny lineage). See Franky Adam Wood Ship Of Dreams Build Offer.
  • Ch. 616 p. 11 — post-timeskip on Fish-Man Island, Den (Tom’s brother) confirms the Pirate King’s ship the Oro Jackson and the Thousand Sunny were built from “exactly the same materials” — the Jewel/Treasure Tree Adam — “Tom used exactly the same materials to make the Pirate King’s ship!” Reinforces the Adam-wood provenance shared across the TomFranky shipwright lineage and pairs with the Sun Tree Eve Adam/Eve mythic-tree naming. See Sun Tree Eve, Den.
  • Ch. 1131 p. 4 — The Jewel Tree, Adam is shown forming the kingdom of Warland. In Elbaf’s Underworld, the great tree that “forms the very kingdom of Warland” is named on-page the Jewel Tree, Adam — the giant tree from which the giants’ nation literally grows, with the chained Prince Loki held beneath it by sea-prism chains. First strong on-page tie of the legendary shipbuilding timber (Franky’s Sunny lumber, the Oro Jackson) to the land of the giants.

  • Where exactly is the war-torn island the tree grows on, and what makes the wood indestructible?
  • Will Franky’s Adam-wood “ship of dreams” become the crew’s next flagship? — tracked at Franky Adam Wood Ship Of Dreams Build Offer.
