Lunarians
sapient-people · extinct (lone living remnant) · homeland — (withheld on-page) · first appearance Ch. 1033. A near-extinct people “once known as gods,” named on-page Ch. 1023 and explained Ch. 1033 p.4 — the masked Lead Performer King is the sole known living member.
Profile
A near-extinct sapient people whose name first appeared Ch. 1023 (Queen→Sanji). Ch. 1033 (p. 4) Queen explains the race and identifies the masked Lead Performer King as “a remnant of the extinct Lunarians.” Once “known as gods” in the distant past; “a monster capable of surviving in any natural environment.” King — on-page since Ch. 925 with his species withheld — is the sole known living member. The cause of extinction is conspicuously left open on-page (“then why would they have died out?”).
Defining traits
- Ch. 1033 p.4 — Can survive in any natural environment (on-page, Queen).
- Ch. 1033 p.4 — Historically revered / labelled “gods” in the distant past (on-page, Queen).
- Ch. 1033 p.4 — The race is now extinct save the surviving remnant (on-page, Queen).
- (Inference, NOT spelled out @1033:) King’s persistent fire / black-flame aura and winged form, shown since Ch. 930, are now framed as Lunarian traits — recorded as inference; the chapter does not spell out the biology of the wings/fire.
- Ch. 1035 p. 4–5, 11, 14 — A Lunarian generates flame on the back at will. While that flame is lit, defense is extreme (“like magma” — near-invulnerable); when it goes out, defensive ability drops — the only opening (Zoro reads “the rules of his body”).
- Ch. 1035 p. 5–6 — On-page racial features (King unmasked): black wings, white hair, dark skin — “the rumors were true.”
- Ch. 1035 p. 5, 10 — The race is one the World Government covets and researches: Lunarians were held as facility test subjects, the WG “wouldn’t give him up,” and a 100-million-berry reward is paid for tipping the WG to a Lunarian’s whereabouts.
- Ch. 1035 p. 10 — A young Kaido broke the Lunarian later renamed King (true name Alber) out of a WG research facility (“the subjects have escaped!!”).
FORWARD-GUARD: record ONLY the in-window facts (@1033 p.4 + @1035 p.4–6, 10–11, 14).

Arc-by-arc updates
Wano Country — Onigashima, Live Floor (Ch. 1033)
- Queen tells Sanji on the Live Floor that the masked King is “a remnant of the extinct Lunarians” — a people who could “survive in any natural environment” and “were known as gods” (p. 4). King’s species, held blank since Ch. 925, is now on-page.
Wano Country — Onigashima, Live Floor — King unmasked (Ch. 1035)
- King tears off his mask mid-duel with Zoro, confirming the Lunarian features the rumors described: black wings, white hair, dark skin (p. 5–6). A flashback (p. 10) shows young Kaido freeing him — true name Alber — from a WG research facility that held Lunarians as test subjects, and renaming him King.
- The Lunarian back-flame mechanic is laid bare: flame lit → defense “like magma” (near-invulnerable); flame out → defense drops (p. 4–5, 11, 14).
- The World Government’s covetousness is quantified: a 100-million-berry reward for tipping off a Lunarian’s location (p. 5, 10). See King’s Mask Concealed A Lunarian The Coveted Near-Extinct Race.
Post-Wano — Seraphim reuse Lunarian bodies (Ch. 1059)
Post-Wano — Lunarian blood weaponized at scale on Egghead (Ch. 1077)

Notes
- Etymology RESOLVED : canonical Japanese is ルナーリア族 (Runāria-zoku, “Lunaria tribe”). Lunaria = Latin “moon-like” (← luna) → a MOON people; reinforces the “known as gods” + winged + fire framing (seraphim / moonwort-fern Botrychium lunaria tattoo refs). See the
