Chapter 1146: Motion in Stillness

Summary

Two Holy-Knight operations tear across Elbaf. In the first, Nami, Usopp and Brook confront Gunko as she abducts Elbaf’s giant children to march them to the Holy Land (Mary Geoise) and enslave them. Gunko styles the Holy Knights as “gods” and monologues the World Government’s motive: a prophecy that “one day the world as we know it will cease to exist” — a vast war that will drag the whole world in, in which “which side the giants pledge their allegiance to” will decide the outcome. So the WG means to seize Elbaf pre-emptively, taking children as hostages. Nami (with Zeus, “Thunder Shark Tempo”) and Usopp fight back; Usopp blows off Gunko’s upper half with a Bullseye arrow, but she regenerates, her Arrow-Arrow power “pointing toward the targets of her attacks” as an unstoppable “countdown.” Elsewhere, a second strike team — Killingham, Sommers and others — knocks out Elbaf’s village-by-village communications, “slumbertizes” (paralyzes) the giant Principal Tusk, and beats down Saul (“the guy who should’ve died at Ohara,” captioned “THE FORMER VICE ADMIRAL”). A Holy Knight rails that King Harald ruined Elbaf by making it peace-loving — schools, libraries — instead of the World Government’s warrior-mercenaries. Saul, bleeding, hides Robin and Chopper behind his head and begs the crew to rescue the children — a direct echo of his Ohara sacrifice. To be continued.

• The WG’s Elbaf motive is a coming apocalyptic war. Gunko: “One day, the world as we know it will cease to exist… a small number of humans realized it and warned the world of the danger… a vast war will ensue, and which side the giants pledge their allegiance to will have a profound effect on the outcome.” Seizing Elbaf and taking children hostage is preparation for that war.
• Gunko’s power, developed. Her arrows “point toward the targets of her attacks” and begin an unavoidable “countdown” (“No one can stop it… it would be the height of folly to take a hit as predicted”). She also regenerates after Usopp blows off her upper half — “it is unstoppable.”

• Saul is losing and captioned “THE FORMER VICE ADMIRAL.” A Holy Knight calls him “the guy who should’ve died at Ohara.” He is shielding Robin and Chopper (“stay hidden around the back of my head”) — the same protector role he played on Ohara.
• King Harald’s reformist legacy, from the enemy’s mouth. A Holy Knight rants that Harald “screwed it all up” by turning warrior-Elbaf peace-loving (schools, libraries) instead of serving the WG “as mercenaries” — “you’re going to use the vicious, violent power that once terrified the world…”
