Summary

Among the Upper Yard ruins, Robin reads the carved script and realizes it is the same writing found on Poneglyphs — meaning only the lost civilization that created the Poneglyphs could have written it. She pieces together the city’s identity: this is Shandora, the Golden City, the legendary capital from Noland’s papers, which was ruined in the service of protecting its Poneglyph and whose own history was erased after it “fought an enemy” in the distant past. Enel appears, introducing himself as “the Kami” who discovered the ruins his idiot predecessors never noticed. In a tense exchange, Robin learns Enel knows nothing of the Great Golden Bell — Shandora’s pride, “the island’s singing voice” — and Enel realizes the bell, which rang when the island flew skyward 400 years ago, is still here in the sky, hanging “in the center of the four altars,” and that a Poneglyph may be with it. Meanwhile on Angel Island, a man who escaped after six years of forced labor building Enel’s ark crawls to Conis and Pagaya, screaming that Enel will destroy everything — Enel plans to use his ark Maxim to crash Skypiea into the Blue Sea and kill every person, then leave for the sky. Back in the ruins, Zoro finishes off Ohm and his dog, and Wyper’s snake-and-bazooka assault, only for Enel to gleefully reveal he invited the Straw Hats and Shandians to Shandora as the survival game’s finale — and begins caving in the entire ancient city with his lightning, holes yawning open beneath the survivors. “Let’s move on to the finale!”

New reveals

• The sky ruins ARE Shandora, the Golden City. Robin confirms it on-page: “The golden city of Shandora… was ruined in the service of protecting the Ponegliff” (pp. 3–5). This is the legendary capital from Noland’s papers — the city tied to the “City of Gold” legend.
• Shandora’s script = Poneglyph script. “The words that are casually written here… they’re the same script as those on the Ponegliff” (p. 2); “The only people who knew how to use these symbols were the ones who created the Ponegliff” (p. 3). A Poneglyph was brought to this city (p. 3).
• The Poneglyph-builders’ creed (quoted). Robin recalls the inscription mantra: “We are the ones who weave history… Hold the truth in your heart, keep your mouth silent” (p. 3) — the first on-page articulation of the Poneglyph-makers’ code.
• The city was destroyed protecting its Poneglyph. “This city fought against… the enemy!!! …the city tried to protect its history!!”; “The town’s books were all burned. And the city’s history was erased” (pp. 3, 5). Distant-past war, deliberate history-erasure.
• The Great Golden Bell is in the sky. “The great bell hangs in the center of the four altars”; “a huge solid gold bell is here… It was in Noland’s papers” (p. 4); the bell “came to the sky” with the island 400 years ago when Upper Yard was born (pp. 8–9). The elders call it “the island’s singing voice” (p. 9).
• Enel knows nothing of the bell or any Poneglyph. He admits he discovered the ruins (“my idiotic predecessors didn’t even notice it”) but never knew about the golden bell, and that he has found no Poneglyph (pp. 6, 8–9). Robin’s questions teach him what’s here.
• Enel’s doomsday plan. He intends to use his ark to destroy Skypiea — “crash Skypiea into the Blue Sea,” “kill every last person… in the sky” — then leave (pp. 12–13). The ark is named Maxim.
• Enel orchestrated the gathering. “I invited them to Shandora! …I invited your friends!! Ya ha ha ha!!” — the survival game’s final round is staged in the ruins on purpose (p. 18).
• Enel collapses Shandora. He begins destroying the ruins with his Logia lightning — “It’s Enel!! No one else has the power to do this! …The ground is caving in!! …holes are opening up under us!” (p. 18). “Let’s move on to the finale!” (p. 19).
