Oden's Dying Creed To Open Wano's Closed Borders Before The World Shifts
Status: pending · Technique: dialogue-from-dead-character · chekhov-explicit
The seed
Quoting their dead lord, the Nine Red Scabbards relay Oden ’s creed: Wano’s “centuries of isolation are deeply tied to the Kozuki clan ’s existence,” and “you must open Wano’s borders!! The world will begin to shift, and before it does…” An explicit, posthumous-dialogue seed pinning Wano’s closed borders to the Void-Century secret and the coming dawn.
FORWARD-GUARD: record the creed as quoted; do NOT pre-state what “the world will begin to shift” means or the nature of the great external power behind the seal.
Ch. 968 p. 7 — Oden states the creed ALIVE (flashback origin)
In the Oden-era flashback, a living Oden — newly returned from Laugh Tale with Roger — declares Wano “must open its ports… before the day that Joyboy appears!!! ” (p. 7). The in-story ORIGIN of the dying creed the Scabbards later relay Ch. 959 : it explicitly couples Wano’s isolation to Joy Boy ’s awaited return.
FORWARD-GUARD: Joy Boy = Luffy / Nika identity stays forward; the payoff (Wano’s borders actually opening) is forward — leave status: pending.
Ch. 972 pp. 7–8 — Oden states the creed at his own execution (the awaited 800-year figure)
At his execution, dying Oden reveals the Kozuki clan closed Wano ~800 years ago to protect it from “a great external power,” and that “when that figure appears, after an 800-year span… this country must be prepared to welcome and work with them” — “the entire world awaits a figure.” His dying command is to “open up Wano” in his stead so the country is ready. The fullest statement of the creed — a dialogue-from-dead-character / chekhov-explicit prophecy reframing Wano’s centuries of isolation as a door deliberately held shut for a coming figure. Its lore companion is Wano’s Sealed Borders And The Awaited Figure .
FORWARD-GUARD: the Joy-Boy / Nika = Luffy payoff and the nature of the great external power stay forward — leave status: pending; do NOT name the figure.
Ch. 984 pp. 16–17 — Yamato inherits the creed (a new, non-Kozuki bearer)
Yamato — Kaido ’s own child, raised on Oden ’s recovered voyage journal — takes up Oden’s dying creed directly: “I want to fight on your side!!! …To open this country to the world!!!” (p. 17). The will to open Wano’s borders passes to a bearer outside the Kozuki bloodline. Its lore companion is Wano’s Sealed Borders And The Awaited Figure .
Ch. 1050 pp. 10-11 — the creed passes to the new Kozuki heir, who DEFERS it
The creed passes to the new Kozuki heir: Momonosuke (adult dragon) weighs opening Wano ’s borders and decides “I will not open the borders… yet ” — a deliberate deferral that keeps Oden ’s dying command live and unfulfilled. Zunisha respects the decision. Seeds the eventual opening as the remaining beat.
FORWARD-GUARD: Momonosuke defers — the borders are NOT opened on-page; the full payoff stays forward of this window.
The payoff
(Pending — the actual opening of Wano’s borders and its world-scale consequence are forward of this window.)
Earliest known caller
(Not recorded.)
Why this matters
A posthumous dialogue-from-a-dead-character seed delivered through the Scabbards: it reframes the Kozuki goal as not merely local revenge but a precondition for a world-scale change. Directly feeds Void Century and Ancient Kingdom and Joy Boy Identity — Wano’s isolation, the Kozuki line, and the “shift / before it does” language all read as the dawn-of-the-world motif. Its lore companion is Wano’s Sealed Borders And The Awaited Figure (the standalone reason-for-the-seal note, owner 0972). Payoff is forward; leave pending.
