- 海の森 Umi no Mori — literally 'forest of the sea' (海 umi 'sea' + 森 mori 'forest/woods'); an undersea forest of coral and seagrass. Reads as an inversion of 樹海 Jukai, 'Sea of Trees' — the byname of Aokigahara, the forest at the foot of Mt. Fuji famed as the 'Suicide Forest'/'Forest of Death' and as a haunt of yūrei (ghosts of the dead). A deep-sea undersea forest on the Fish-Man Island seafloor, NE of the island. First named (Ch. 614) as a destination: both Jinbei (“I await you in the Forest of the Sea!”, relayed by King Neptune, p. 8) and Shirahoshi (“I’ve always wanted to go to the Forest of the Sea”, p. 11) name it; Luffy resolves to take Shirahoshi there inside Megalo (p. 17). Set up as the arc’s convergence point — where the absent Jinbei has pre-arranged to meet Luffy.
First shown (Ch. 615) via the establishing caption “Deep Sea, the Forest of the Sea” (p. 17). Revealed as the site of Queen Otohime’s grave — the place Shirahoshi has most wanted to visit during her ten years of confinement (p. 16). Mourners at the grave vow that “none of us has forgotten your ideals.”
