The only crew to ever reach Laugh Tale and find the One Piece. Disbanded
voluntarily by Roger upon learning he was terminally ill and that “the age
to reach this is not now.” Members scattered into the next era — many became
the Yonko, the Dark King, the Light of the Revolution, etc.
The crew’s roster at God Valley (when they helped defeat Rocks) included
characters who later became canonical legends across multiple arcs.

The Path To Becoming a Manga Character! Part 2 )
Oda confirms in the volume bonus column: “In the early versions of the story, Zolo was a bodyguard on Buggy’s ship before he joined Luffy. After a lot of thought, I decided not to do it that way.” The discarded pre-canon plot would have placed Zoro on the Buggy Pirates before Luffy — meaning the Zoro-as-Roger-era-adjacent-sword connection has authorial pre-history (Buggy was Roger’s apprentice; a bodyguard-on-Buggy’s-ship would have placed Zoro in Buggy’s apprentice-era orbit, i.e. Roger-era-adjacent). Forward-routing note for the master-weaver: this is the most narratively significant author-column reveal so far in the vault; the structural symmetry between Zoro’s swordsmanship and the Buggy-era is intentional pre-history , not coincidence.
