Profile
A sapient people listed among the World Government’s “saleable” non-human races at the Grove 1 Human Auction Hall (Ch. 501 p. 7). Grouped with the Dwarf , Longarm , Longleg , and Snakeneck peoples at a 700,000-berry minimum bid — above humans (500,000) but below fish-men (1,000,000). Defining traits
First on-page depiction of the Mink Tribe (p. 16-18): humanoid animal-people with animal ears/features (a rabbit-mink, Carrot Nami ’s clothes). They wield electricity as a natural weapon (crackling shock, p. 16-17) and inhabit Zou , including the Whale Forest . The crew identifies them: “They’re Minks” (p. 18).
The complete Mink Tribe is shown on-page (pp. 2–14): distinct species-types — rabbit (Carrot ), dog (Wanda ), bull (Roddy ), gorilla (Blackback ), polar bear (Bepo ) — under two on-page caption designations: “Battlebeast Tribe” (warriors, e.g. Carrot/Wanda) and “Whale Forest Guardian” (forest wardens, e.g. Roddy/Blackback, commanded by Pedro ). Ch. 806 — culture, friendliness, and the Cat Viper
The Mink Tribe is shown en masse . Despite a reputation as a “human-hating species,” they are extraordinarily friendly: their greeting is “Garchu” (a cheek-rub/nuzzle, pp. 15–16). Mink vocabulary: humans are “Youteia” (p. 16); their own sub-types include Monkey Minks (less hair), Lesser Minks , and proud full-body minks (pp. 15–16). The Whale Forest is governed by the Cat Viper (“the boss of this forest,” p. 5), and Bepo “was born here.” They hail the Straw Hats as their “saviors” and feast their friends at the Rightflank Fortress (pp. 12–14).
Ch. 807 — culture, the welcome feast, and the two kings
The Mink Tribe hosts a welcome feast en masse on Zou (pp. 2–3). Culture details: aggressive physical affection (“physical mink-timacy”); dog minks “chew bones” and call those they cherish “corpses ” as a term of endearment (they swarm and “chew” Zoro to his alarm); they do not eat furred animals (hippo/lizard/alligator are fine). They brew “monkey wine” from the forest’s fruit. They live in the Mokomo Dukedom two kings ” — a King of the Day (Duke Dogstorm ) and a King of the Night (the Cat Viper ). Mink doctors Miyagi and Tristan (with Chopper ) saved the wounded — “without their bravery and Chopper’s medical skills… every last mink… could have died” (pp. 12–14).
Ch. 808 — mink martial doctrine, Electro, and the King of the Day
The assault flashback dramatizes mink combat (pp. 8–9): every mink is a natural-born fighter (“no weak members of this herd,” even “suckling babes have the gift of self-defense”), and the elite Musketeers “defy all description.” Minks fight with Electro — a body-generated electric discharge (“ZZAP”) that fells the Animal Kingdom Pirates ’ Pleasures (p. 8). The mink nation (Mokomo Dukedom ) is shown ruled by a King of the Day (the bandaged Duke Dogstorm , p. 16), guarded by the lion-mink Musketeer captain Shishilian (p. 14).
Ch. 809 — the two-king rule, the Musketeers/Guardians, and “Wolf Grip”
The Mink Tribe’s nation, the Mokomo Dukedom , is ruled by two kings at once — Duke Dogstorm by day (6 a.m.–6 p.m., with his Musketeers ) and the Cat Viper by night (with his Guardians ); the kings are equal-strength rivals who split day/night so they never meet (pp. 4–6). Martial culture: fighting styles incl. “Wolf Grip ” (a wolf-form grapple manifesting from the hand) (pp. 7–9). Ch. 810 — Pedro shown; the -gara speech; the two-king stalemate vs Jack
The gravely wounded Pedro first clearly shown , begging the Straw Hats to save the two dukes (“two kings”) before they die (pp. 16–17); Bepo is shown defending his home island (p. 4). Mink speech uses -gara forms (“Yougara” = you-people; “Themgara” = them). The minks fought Jack (a billion-bounty Yonko officer) to a five-day stalemate — his power “not enough to topple our two kings” alone (p. 7).
Ch. 811 — the Kingsbird office; the dual day/night monarchy
The Mokomo Dukedom is a dual day/night monarchy : a King of the Day (Duke Dogstorm ) and a King of the Night (Cat Viper , guardian of the Whale Forest ). A “Kingsbird” is a special officer who acts as the go-between for the two kings, day and night (Wanda and Carrot are Kingsbirds, pp. 16-17). The minks speak with characteristic suffixes (e.g. “-gara,” “-teia”); Tristan invokes the tribe’s “thousand-year history.”
Ch. 812 — a Zou-born mink emissary; mink culture
Pekoms Big Mom Pirates is revealed as a Zou-born lion-mink (“Oh, so he’s a mink too,” p. 7) — an “infamous problem child” who left home long ago; he weeps to find the Mokomo Dukedom in ruins. Tristan Sanji with a “garchu” (pp. 3-4). Culture: the nuzzle-greeting is “garchu” ; trading clothes with outsiders is a sign of friendship ; the Mokomo Dukedom’s Right-Flank Fortress is a living space once used by mink ancestors. Ch. 813 — minks at the Castle-Tank departure
Wanda is with the Sanji team on Zou when Sanji surrenders to Bege ; she is restrained from chasing the departing “Castle Tank.” Brook senses “a powerful presence outside… probably one of the minks,” and a giant mink looms over Bege’s castle (pp. 12, 15, 17).
Ch. 814 — two new named minks: Treetop Pedro and the Cat Viper
Two new named minks are shown: Treetop Pedro Whale Forest Guardians , title card p. 12) and the Cat Viper / Nekomamushi King of the Night , ruling the Whale Forest , pp. 14–16). Mink lore reinforced: they heal fast, use Electro , greet with a “Garchu ” cheek-rub, and the Whale Forest Guardians are a martial caste. The Cat Viper lost his left paw to Jack ’s attack.
Ch. 817 — the two kings shown; the Mink–Kozuki retainer bond
The minks of Kurau City , Zou are shown en masse, ruled by two kings — Inuarashi (King of Day) and Nekomamushi (King of Night), whose clear full appearances land this chapter. Both kings — and the ninja Raizo — bear the Kozuki Clan crestKozuki retainers ; their long feud ends in a ceasefire “by the power of Kozuki ” (pp. 2–9). Ch. 830 — Pedro’s pre-Zou pirate past; the kings showed Roger the Road Poneglyph
The jaguar mink Pedro Pekoms Road Poneglyph Cat Viper Big Mom ’s territory; he recounts that 26 years ago the two kings Inuarashi & Nekomamushi showed Roger ’s crew the Road Poneglyph in the Whale Tree (pp. 12-15). The mink word “yougara” (≈ “you”) recurs (SBS p. 18 explains mink pronouns).

Sulong
Name etymology
Sulong is written 月の獅子 (lit. “Moon Lion” — tsuki no shishi ) but glossed with the furigana スーロン (Sūron / “Sulong”) , so the spoken word is Sulong while the printed kanji literally read “Moon Lion.” VIZ renders this on-page as “Sulong — a Moon Lion.” The kanji directly describe the form shown this chapter: a moon-triggered, leonine beast-state. (No SBS/Oda gloss confirms a further real-world loanword source for the reading “Sulong,” so none is asserted here.) Surface meaning high confidence ; deeper loanword origin unsourced → omitted. Ch. 888 — pp. 10-17 — first on-page Sulong
Sulong (VIZ: “Sulong — a Moon Lion”): the minks’ full-moon transformation. Triggered by direct sight of a full moon, the mink’s fur turns white, eyes red, and body and ferocity are vastly amplified into a roaring beast-form (“Even her hair is white!! …her eyes are red… She’s like a different person!!”). In Sulong a mink shrugs off point-blank gunfire (“a warrior of Zou — they’re made of sterner stuff”) and tears warships apart. It must be trained to control , or the mink risks losing themselves (“Do you have the training for it?!”); Carrot was trained by the late Pedro . First demonstrated on-page when Carrot transforms aboard the Sunny and routs Daifuku ’s pursuit fleet.
Ch. 889 — p. 4, pp. 12-13 — the Sulong rules stated on-page (Pekoms’s exposition)
The lion-mink Pekoms narrates the mechanics of Sulong, the Moon Lion as Carrot rampages (p. 4): a mink who stares into a clear full moon transforms into a pale, ferocious form; the change “calls forth the wild memories that lurk deep within their subconscious,” granting overwhelming power, and its strength depends on the moon’s cycle and the weather . A mink who cannot control the transformation loses self-control and “will literally fight themselves to death in a single night,” harming everyone around them. It is reverted by hiding the eyes from the moonlight — a hat, tinted glasses, or simply shutting the eyes (pp. 12-13). Carrot finishes Daifuku ’s pursuit fleet with “Guillotine!!” and warns she is “losing consciousness.” This is the full naming/explanation of the “ace up the sleeve” Cat Viper teased Ch. 819 . Ch. 897 — Sulong mechanics deepened (Pekoms at Cacao Island)
Sulong demonstrated on Pekoms (a lion-mink): triggered under the full moon, it turns the mink into “an unthinking, rampaging monster.” Two on-page mechanics are established: (1) an out-of-control Sulong mink can be calmed only by a specific trusted voice — for Pekoms, the late Pedro ’s — so with Pedro dead nobody can stop his rampage (p. 4); (2) the transformation is keyed to the mink seeing the full moon — Oven orders Pekoms blinded “so he can never see the full moon again” (p. 12). Ch. 987 — Sulong primed on the Onigashima Dome Roof (full moon)
Mink warriors are secretly brought from their kingdom (Zou ) to the open Dome Roof of Onigashima ; under the full moon, with snow falling “like flower petals,” Sulong is primed for the rooftop battle — the Minks’ hidden ace deployed at scale. The Mink dukes Nekomamushi and Inuarashi lead. (Page 19)
Ch. 988 — Sulong minks storm the Live Floor; the short-lifespan constraint stated
The minks fight in Sulong form on the Onigashima Live Floor under the full moon — Dogstorm’s Three Musketeers (Giovanni , Shishilian , Concelot ) and the Whale Forest Guardians (Roddy & Blackback ) — swarming Jack alongside the ninja Raizo . A new on-page constraint is stated: “the Sulong life span is short” — the form cannot be sustained, so they press the attack and are told to “save your strength for Kaido” (pp. 2–5). Sulong is fragile to cloud cover. Sulong requires a clear full moon; the dragons’ storm clouds blotting out the moon cause a fully-transformed mink (Cat Viper ) to revert mid-battle (“His Sulong wore off!!”, pp. 9–11) — reinforcing the clear-full-moon dependency. The closing spread’s “the clouds are splitting” (p. 14) leaves the moon’s return open.

Ch. 1081 p. 18 — a mink reaches Sulong WITHOUT a full moon
Defending the defeated Law at Winner Island , the polar-bear mink Bepo transforms into Sulong with no full moon out — an onlooker reacts “How can that be?! The moon’s not out!! ” (p. 18). This appears to break the established rule that Sulong requires direct moonlight (cf. @0889 / @0897), hinting at an unrevealed trigger or limit-break mechanic. Off-Zou — the Guardians reach Marco
Origin in Wano — the dukes taken in by Oden (Oden flashback)
The origin of the minks’ presence in Wano is dramatized: the shipwrecked dukes Cat Viper and Dogstorm first reached the Kuri shore as starving outcasts and, when all Wano feared them as “monsters,” were saved from a stake-burning mob and fed by young Oden — cementing the personal devotion underlying the ancient Mink–Kozuki pact (the pact itself is restated p. 3 over Zunisha ).
