Chapter 1084: The Attempted Murder of a Celestial Dragon

Note: the entire chapter is a flashback to the Reverie at Mariejois (as recounted in the Egghead-era narrative). It re-depicts the Reverie incident (cf. Ch. 903–Ch. 908) with major new detail, and reveals the Nefertari/Void-Century founding history. Per vault convention, flashback panels add arc bullets but do not advance last_appearance for present-day-tracked characters.

Summary

Inside Pangaea Castle at Sacred Marijoa, Sabo (mid-mission to free the enslaved former King Kuma) collides with Jewelry Bonney, who reveals herself as Kuma’s daughter and hands over the stolen keys to the slave collars. Sabo dispatches Karasu to deliver the keys to Morley and order the Revolutionaries home once the slaves are freed; Bonney resolves to go to Egghead and ask Vegapunk to restore her father. In a parallel thread, King Cobra of Alabasta — in audience with the Five Elders — recounts the founding of the World Government 800 years ago by 20 kings who created the Empty Throne, then confronts them: his royal library records only 19 weapons around the throne and no mention of Queen Lily of the Nefertari dynasty, the founder who refused to become a Celestial Dragon and returned to Alabasta. Cobra asks “What is the D?”, revealing an 800-year-old letter passed down through the Nefertari kings. Meanwhile in the Mingling Courtyard, Saint Charlos has chained Shirahoshi as a “pet”; her brothers Fukaboshi, Ryuboshi and Manboshi fight to free her, and Sai’s “Dragon Nail” strikes Charlos down — “The murder of a Celestial Dragon!!” Morley frees Kuma. The chapter ends with Imu appearing before Cobra in the Empty Throne chamber.

New reveals

• The 800-year founding, in detail: ~800 years ago, 20 kings of 20 kingdoms created the World Government, moved to Marijoa with their families as the self-styled “creators of the world” (Celestial Dragons), and placed 20 weapons around the Empty Throne as an oath never to claim the seat — so no one rules the others as a dictator; among themselves the 20 are always equals. (pp. 6–7)
• The first 20 dynasties’ names vanished from the lands they came from; new kings were chosen in the 20 abandoned kingdoms. (p. 7)
• Queen Lily / the Nefertari abstention: Queen Lily of the Nefertari dynasty was counted among the first 20, but chose to return to Alabasta and did not become a Celestial Dragon — the Nefertari name still reigns in Alabasta. (p. 7)
• Only 19 weapons: Cobra found in his royal library that there are only 19 weapons at the throne, not 20, and no mention of Queen Lily’s name in the records. The Elders claim Lily’s younger brother took the Alabasta throne and she never returned to rule. (pp. 8–9)
• “What is the D?”: Cobra asks the Five Elders “What is the D?” and reveals a brief 800-year-old letter that Lily “passed down through our line of kings.” (p. 9)
• Sai attempted the murder of Saint Charlos: the perpetrator of “the attempted murder of St. Charlos” (referenced Ch. 1054) is shown — Sai’s “Dragon Nail” fells Charlos; the crowd screams “The murder of a Celestial Dragon!!” and “The admirals will be on their way!!” (pp. 14–15)
• Kuma freed: Morley uses Sabo’s keys to free the enslaved Kuma; Kuma is urged “You’ve done enough! You don’t need to listen to orders anymore!” (p. 16)
