Summary
The Oden flashback reaches its climax: Lord Kozuki Oden’s public execution at the Flower Capital. As Shinobu and the townsfolk beg Orochi to stop, the shogun’s men fire warning letter-arrows and the crowd realizes the “fool lord” they mocked was undergoing the boiling execution to spare them — that his five years of dancing was protection, not madness. Standing in the boiling-oil cauldron, Oden delivers his last testament: the Kozuki clan closed Wano ~800 years ago to guard it from a “great external power,” and after an 800-year span a figure the whole world awaits will appear — Wano must open its borders to welcome them. Oden survives the full hour, holding his nine retainers (Akazaya Nine) up out of the oil the entire time. Orochi, enraged, declares he secretly changed the sentence to death by firing squad and has the whole clan condemned; Oden hurls his retainers clear toward Kuri, gives a final speech intercut with memories of his life, names “Toki, Momonosuke, Hiyori,” cries “I am Oden, and I was born to boil!!” — and is shot dead. The chapter closes on Kozuki Toki voicing her prophecy of a great war 20 years hence and Oden entrusting her with the time-leap, the story hurtling back toward the present day.
