Dorry and Brogy have fought for 100 years; neither remembers why the duel started.
Why this matters
Forward-pattern implication: The long-forgotten-reason register is Oda’s structural diagnosis of forever-wars. It pre-loads:
- The Marines-vs-Pirates conflict in the grand sense — the original dispute (Roger’s pirate-king declaration? earlier?) is long buried under a century of inertial conflict.
- The World Government-vs-D conflict — the original dispute (the Void-Century war between the WG-founders and the Ancient Kingdom) has been deliberately erased by the World Government’s suppression of true history. The fight continues; the cause is literally forgotten (or, more precisely, literally suppressed).
- The Reverie-Era political conflicts between the World Government and its constituent nations — origin-disputes lost to bureaucratic accretion.
The Dorry-Brogy duel is the microcosm of every macro-scale forever-war Oda eventually canonizes. The Ch. 116 install is the doctrine-seed; the macro-payoffs are forward-canon at multiple scales.
