Volume 30 SBS — Three-class taxonomy formalized (Paramecia / Zoan / Logia)
Oda’s first formal classification of all known Devil Fruits into the three classes, with the load-bearing definition: “The logia-type, which allows its user to freely change his original physical form, definitely stands out on a whole other level compared to other devil fruits.” This is the canonical Logia-tier-supremacy doctrine pre-loading Haki forward-canon.

Oda extends Vol. 30 taxonomy: “Logia (nature) type can turn their bodies into something completely different. Zoan (animal) type can turn into animals. Everything aside from those is lumped into the Paramecia (superhuman) category. Volume 38 SBS — “One bite = one user” rule (foundational DF mechanic)
Oda formalizes the fundamental transmission rule: “One fruit cannot be shared by many people. The Devil Fruit Abilities are transferred after one bite. After that, it’s just a nasty old fruit. In the instance that they take a bite at the same time, the power will belong to the one who swallows first. Nothing will happen if anyone else takes a bite. So in summation, a single fruit cannot give its powers to multiple people.” This is the doctrinal baseline against which Blackbeard’s later multi-fruit ability must be measured — see Blackbeard Multiple Fruits .

Volume 41 SBS — DF + water doctrine (definitive)
Oda’s definitive doctrine: “People who have eaten a Devil Fruit are ‘hated’ by the sea. The ‘sea’ here can refer to anything from rivers, pools and baths to any kind of standing water. On a worldwide level, they are all the ‘sea.’” Submerged: can’t use powers AND can barely move. Less than half-body or limbs-only: manageable. Rain and dripping water: NO effect. Hip baths and showers are standard for DF users. Crocodile-specific: water disables his sand-power even in the shower, but he showers anyway because no enemies present. Reframes the Ch. 89 will-to-live-loss sub-axis: the sea’s hostility scales with submersion-fraction, not is/isn’t-touching-water. Volume 45 SBS — Devil Fruit Encyclopedia (book) is canon
Oda confirms a book of Devil Fruits exists in-world. “It has info about all kinds of fruit names and abilities, but few of the fruit can actually be identified by their shape. In the case of the Gomu Gomu no Mi, there was a picture and everything, but for Kaku and Kalifa, they were talking about how they wouldn’t know until they had finally eaten the fruit.” Resolves the long-running “how did Shanks recognize the Gomu Gomu pre-ingestion but Kaku/Kalifa couldn’t identify theirs?” question — the Encyclopedia has pictures for only a subset of fruits , and the Gomu Gomu happens to be one of them. Forward-pre-load: the Encyclopedia is presumably what enables WG/Marine target-tracking of high-value fruits (Mera-Mera, Ope-Ope, etc.) pre-ingestion. Also confirms all DFs have the identifying swirly pattern (Ch. 436 Q).

Volume 48 SBS — Zoan model = distinct fruit doctrine + “same powers don’t exist AT THE SAME TIME” clarification
Reader catches the apparent contradiction between Usopp’s “the same power doesn’t exist twice” (Vol 45) and Oda’s Vol 45 SBS confirming the Gomu Gomu is in a book of fruits (implying multiple historical Gomu Gomu users). Oda’s clarifying re-statement : “The same powers don’t exist twice AT THE SAME TIME .” DFs are time-sliced unique — only one user per fruit per moment; once a user dies, the fruit regenerates somewhere else. Oda also teases that “a certain professor” will eventually explain DF mechanics fully.

Ch. 1103 p. 10 — a Devil-Fruit power can be transferred to an infant via an “extract”
Saturn reveals a Devil-Fruit power can be given to “an infant incapable of eating solid fruit” via an extract (his experiment on baby Bonney ) — an artificial-transfer method distinct from eating the whole fruit (“successful, but the fruit itself was worthless”). Mid-duel with Gear-5 Luffy , Kaido insists “Roger didn’t have any fruit powers!!! …Because only Haki… can transcend all!!! …abilities alone cannot conquer the world!!!” — positioning will/Haki, not Devil-Fruit ability, as the decisive force in the world’s apex conflicts.
Ch. 1044 p. 4 — Zoan fruits “contain a will of their own”; the fruit “is trying to escape our grasp”
The Five Elders state Zoan fruits have an autonomous will and that the Mythical Zoan Hito Hito no Mi, Model Nika eluded WG recovery for 800 years “as though the devil fruit is trying to escape our grasp” — the strongest on-page statement of fruit-as-agent / fruit-volition. The chapter title “S.A.D.” is named on-page as a manufactured substance: a labeled tank and the S.A.D. Manufacturing Room (Structure D) in Caesar’s lab (p. 8). Law treats destroying all of it as the decisive strike against Doflamingo (Joker) — “you’ve lost all your S.A.D.!! …your most vital pawn” / “now I’ve destroyed the gears” (pp. 13–14, 19). Momonosuke transformed into a dragon by eating “Vegapunk’s artificial Devil Fruit,” a specimen kept in a glass case in the lab’s Secret Room and described as “thought to be a failure” (p. 11). The fruit behaves like a Zoan (dragon ⇄ “original form / human”), but its mechanics are unstable — Momonosuke can revert “but how?” he doesn’t know (p. 11). Ch. 671 — Logia mechanics clarified (Haki vs Logia; conditioned immunity)
Armament Haki lets you physically interact with a Logia’s “body” but does not strip their ability to use the fruit (Robin , p. 7) — a Logia is grabbed yet still re-disperses into gas. Moria ’s Kage-Kage no Mi power is shown at full mechanic: a stolen shadow forced into a colossal corpse (Oars ) animates it, and the pact line — “you will forget all human relationships you had in the past… I will now provide you a voice and body… so you can live on as my zombie” — establishes that a zombie inherits the shadow-owner’s personality, will and appetite , not a generic life-force.
