Chapter 554: Admiral Akainu

- 1 chainMarco - pineapple-motif design foreshadows phoenix Mythical Zoan
- Firsts
- Marco, leader of the First Division, is 'Marco the Phoenix' — a Mythical Creature Zoan, 'a fruit far rarer than the ones that create Logia types'; his blue flames keep regenerating his body no matter how many times he is hit. He shrugs off the full force of Admiral Kizaru's attack and stays standing (p. 2).
- Akainu is now an Admiral ('Admiral Akainu' — the chapter title) and wields a magma Logia power: he vaporizes a hurled iceberg with 'Great Eruption' and rains molten lava down on the Whitebeard fleet, sinking ships the pirates 'can't deflect' (pp. 7-10). The fruit name is NOT stated on-page.
- Jozu (Whitebeard's Third Division Commander) hurls an ENORMOUS iceberg into the Marineford plaza by raw strength — 'It's an iceberg!! It's enormous!!' (pp. 5-6).
- Little Oars Jr. — a colossal giant and 'a descendant of Oars the Continent Puller' — fights for Whitebeard, charging the bay to save Ace: 'Ace is my friend! I won't let him die!!' He so dwarfs the war's giants that 'our giants are dwarfs next to him' (pp. 14-15).
- A corpse-coveting Warlord (laughing 'Ki shi shi shi' and demanding 'I want his corpse!!' — consistent with Gecko Moria's signature laugh and zombie-collecting MO) eyes Little Oars Jr.'s body (p. 15) [inference, not on-page named].

Summary
The war at Marineford escalates into a clash of monsters. First Division Commander Marco absorbs the full force of Admiral Kizaru’s light attack and is still standing — the Marines realize he is “Marco the Phoenix,” a Mythical Creature Zoan whose blue flames regenerate his body no matter how many times he is struck (“a fruit far rarer than the ones that create Logia types”). Marco trades blows with Kizaru (“Liar.” / “It still hurts.”). Down in the plaza, Jozu hurls a gigantic iceberg into the Marine line, but Admiral Akainu — now openly titled “Admiral” — steps up and answers it with magma: his “Great Eruption” vaporizes the iceberg into lava that rains across the Whitebeard fleet, sinking ships the pirates can’t deflect. Whitebeard and Akainu exchange threats (“Stick to lighting candles on birthday cakes, Magma Boy.” / “Don’t you want a brightly-lit funeral, Whitebeard?”), and onlookers feel “like we’re watching the end of the world.” The Marines press to sink the Moby Dick and take Whitebeard’s head, and to stop the division commanders — until a new giant enters the bay: Little Oars Jr., a colossal descendant of Oars the Continent Puller who fights for Whitebeard. He dwarfs every other giant (“our giants are dwarfs next to him!”), declares “Ace is my friend! I won’t let him die!!,” and charges to clear a path through the Marine ships. A corpse-coveting Warlord (his “Ki shi shi shi” laugh and “I want his corpse!!” matching Gecko Moria) begins to salivate over the giant’s body. The chapter closes with the war intensifying: “I’m starting to get excited.”
New reveals
- Marco = “Marco the Phoenix,” a Mythical Creature Zoan — explicitly “a fruit far rarer than the ones that create Logia types”; his blue flames keep regenerating his body no matter how many times he is attacked, letting him tank Kizaru’s full attack and remain standing (p. 2). Fruit name NOT given on-page.
- Akainu is now an Admiral — the chapter title is “Admiral Akainu,” and Marines address him as “Admiral Akainu!” (p. 7); his magma Logia power is shown in full.
- Akainu’s magma overpowers ice — “Great Eruption” vaporizes Jozu’s hurled iceberg and rains lava across the Whitebeard fleet, sinking ships (“Aah!! I can’t deflect them!!”) (pp. 7-10).
- Jozu’s strength — the Third Division Commander throws an “enormous” iceberg into the plaza by raw power (pp. 5-6).
- Little Oars Jr. — a colossal giant and “a descendant of Oars the Continent Puller,” fighting for Whitebeard; he dwarfs the war’s giants and charges to save Ace: “Ace is my friend! I won’t let him die!!” (pp. 14-15).

Open questions raised
- Can Little Oars Jr. break the Marine line and clear a path to Ace, as the pirates expect (“He’ll clear a path for the rest of them!!”)?
- Is anything able to counter Akainu’s magma, which overpowers and vaporizes ice and crushes the fleet?
- Will the corpse-coveting Warlord (apparently Gecko Moria) move to claim Little Oars Jr.’s body?
- What is the actual NAME of Marco’s Mythical-Zoan fruit (unrevealed this chapter)?
