• Cornered and threatened with torture, Drake refuses to talk (“you’ll have to kill me before I speak”) and resolves “I can’t talk my way out of this” (p. 15). A panicked beat — “is there any way back to the navy…?! No, that comes later” — underscores his exposed ex-Marine position (p. 15).

• Devil-fruit power shown for the first time: transforms into an ancient-species Zoan dinosaur (allosaurus-type) and bites the Pacifista — a bystander calls it “a rare, ancient species of the Zoan type… the first time I’ve seen one” (p. 11). • Jumps into the fight against Kizaru at Grove 24 (“Someone jumped into the fight again!!!”). Kizaru addresses him as “Rear Admiral Drake” (p. 13) — the first on-page statement of Drake’s specific former Marine rank, deepening the planted “fallen naval officer” anomaly. • Reacts to the news — “What a troublesome group of people… I’ll kick their butts!!!” — and orders his crew to set sail; addressed as “Captain Drake” (p. 3).

Sabaody Archipelago (Ch. 501)
