Profile
A Logia Devil Fruit whose user, Caesar Clown, becomes and manipulates gas — shown turning into a gas/smoke form during his reveal (Ch. 664 p. 18). Named on his intro card as “(Gas-Gas Fruit powers).” The fruit underpins Caesar’s role as “the authority on weapons of mass murder” — his gas mastery is what let him build and detonate the island-killing chemical weapon and, later, purify the gas to recruit the survivors.

Power limits & weaknesses

- Title-chapter showcase (Ch. 671): Caesar can inhale/concentrate ambient and his own gas (“Suck it in”); after feigning capture he abruptly suffocates Luffy into unconsciousness mid-victory by an unexplained means (the mechanism is withheld as a cliffhanger this chapter, p. 15).
- Haki interaction: armament Haki lets an opponent grab the Logia’s “body” but does NOT disable the fruit’s use — Caesar slips Luffy’s grip by re-dispersing into gas (pp. 7–8). The fruit’s poison is countered only by an unusually poison-resistant body (Luffy, post-Magellan, p. 9). See Haki.
- Area-denial / poison-knockout ceiling (Ch. 672): Caesar uses his gas to incapacitate five power-tier fighters (Smoker, Tashigi, and three Straw Hats) at range “without even touching them,” to the point G-5 marines mistake it for Conqueror’s Haki (pp. 6-7).

- Haki vulnerability demonstrated (Ch. 689): Luffy lands a Haki-imbued punch flush on Caesar’s gas (Logia) body (“DAM!! / KABOOO”); Caesar is shocked that anyone has ever “stopped” him — “No one’s ever… stopped me before!!!” — underscoring that Busoshoku/armament Haki bypasses the fruit’s gaseous intangibility (pp. 18-20).

- Etymology flag : “Gas-Gas Fruit” / Gasu Gasu no Mi — gas as both substance and weapon.
- Weaponization (Ch. 675): Caesar’s gas is identified as toxic H₂S (hydrogen sulfide); weaponized into the autonomous gas-creature Smiley, which when force-fed a “special food” becomes the “Land of the Dead” killing machine (pp. 13-14).
- Land of the Dead deployed (Ch. 676): the perfected gas weapon (Smiley reborn) instantly petrifies victims into ash-covered statues across the whole island (pp. 7-12). The weapon is Smiley / the H₂S incarnation rather than the Logia body itself, but it is the product of Caesar’s gas science. See Land of the Dead.
- Gas spreads island-wide (Ch. 677): Caesar’s “Land of the Dead” gas covers the entire island (pp. 7, 13-17); the lab’s steel shutter is the only barrier against it.
- Area-denial death-field + oxygen-suck recap (Ch. 678): the deployed Land of the Dead gas is confirmed instantly lethal in the open (“one step outside means instant death”) and nearly floods Building A’s lobby through a blown breach before it is sealed at the last second (pp. 6-7); an on-page recap names the oxygen-control mechanic — “He can suck all the oxygen out of the air!!” — as the means by which Caesar suffocated and beat Luffy once already (p. 15). - “Land of the Dead” (死国) materialized (Ch. 691, pp. 14–16): Caesar materializes his killer gas into a colossal humanoid monster bearing the kanji 死国 on its chest — his self-styled “true power” (“the power of science!!!”). Because Caesar’s own body is gas, the weapon cannot harm him (“It won’t kill me; I’m already made of gas!!”, p. 11). See Land of the Dead.
- Whole Cake Island escape (Ch. 871): Caesar uses his gas to fly the alliance over the chateau wall (his power visibly draining/sparking — “I refuse to die here!!”) and detonates a colossal smokescreen to cover the escape, leaving Big Mom confused (pp. 2-4, 13, 16-17).
