One of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and master of Thriller Bark. A colossal, horned figure introduced this chapter as “the guy who steals shadows” — he robs people of their shadows, leaving them cursed and unable to walk in the sun. He had targeted the Straw Hats from the moment they entered his waters. Sleeps for days at a stretch and wakes ravenous. His Devil Fruit power (shadow-theft) is referenced obliquely but is not named on-page this chapter.

Thriller Bark (Ch. 463) — faces Luffy directly; the shadow-war rulebook

• Faces Luffy directly. Lays out the rules of the shadow war: as the shadows’ living master, killing or beating him does NOT free the stolen shadows — they return only if he orders them home (“go back to your original owners”) or is made weak enough to be forced to give the order (p. 3). Sets the arc’s win-condition.
• Reveals the zombie-obedience lifecycle: every zombie eventually becomes completely obedient to him no matter how strong the owner’s will; an extreme size mismatch between shadow and body only delays it (“only a matter of time”); once fully obedient, the shadow’s original owner permanently loses all their memories (pp. 5-6). Thriller Bark (Ch. 469)

• Confirms Oars’s body and Luffy’s shadow have “finally fused completely” and commands the now-obedient masterwork: “Have you become an obedient zombie?” → “Then I will give you your first mission!!” — orders Oars to hunt down and crush all the Straw Hats and ship them out (pp. 6-7). Thriller Bark (Ch. 473) — shadow-decoy escape

• Luffy “catches” Moria — only to find he grabbed a shadow doppelgänger; Moria slipped away while leaving a decoy behind (“A shadow?” / “I got tricked!!!”, p. 19). Demonstrates another use of his Kage-Kage no Mi: body-double misdirection. Dawn-deadline narration follows (“Dawn, and the inevitable death of the shadowless, draws near…”).

Thriller Bark (Ch. 474) — piloting Oars from inside; hosts Kuma’s warning visit

• Hosts Kuma’s warning visit; refuses Kuma’s offered help and boasts that the Straw Hat who panics the WG “was easily turned into a zombie slave of Gecko Moria” (pp. 11-15). “Ki shi shi.”

Thriller Bark (Ch. 476) — Shadow Revolution named; piloting Oars

• Fights from inside Oars’s stomach, piloting the giant like a ship (“This is my fight!! Let me drive!!”, pp. 12-13).

• Having absorbed all ~1,000 zombie shadows on the island, Moria has become a colossal monster “more powerful than Oars ever was,” able to “split the island open with a single blow” — but it is a desperate gambit to run out the clock until the dawn sun forces the Straw Hats to retreat (pp. 2-3).
