Artificial Devil Fruit
Structural lore — the first on-page confirmation that Devil-Fruit powers can be artificially synthesized, not only found in nature.
What we know
- Ch. 685: a specimen of Vegapunk’s artificial Devil Fruit is shown kept in a glass case in the forbidden Secret Room of Caesar’s Punk Hazard lab, and described as “thought to be a failure” (p. 11).
- Ch. 685: Momonosuke ate it and became an Eastern dragon — an artificial Zoan-like transformation (dragon ⇄ “original form / human”), but unstable: he can revert “but how?” he doesn’t know, and is “not a Zoan type” (p. 11).
- Ch. 685: the same lab holds a S.A.D. Manufacturing Room (Structure D, on the facility map p. 15), siting this prototype next to an unrevealed mass-production line.
- Ch. 1007: the failed artificial Devil Fruit stored at Punk Hazard is given an origin — Vegapunk, at WG behest, extracted Kaido’s bloodline elements (while the Navy held Kaido captive) and synthesized a Zoan from them; Kaido considered it a failure and the WG demanded he hand it over (CP-0 exposition, p.15). Connects the Punk-Hazard prototype to Momonosuke’s dragon transformation and to Bloodline Elements.
- Ch. 1007: a lab at Punk Hazard survived the explosion and “was still functioning” per G-5’s reports (p.15) — a loose end.
