Summary
In the chaos following Whitebeard’s death, Blackbeard reveals he can now wield Whitebeard’s tremor power alongside his own darkness, and unleashes a quake shockwave over a collapsing Marineford while vowing to sink the island; Sengoku confronts him in defiance. The chapter’s through-line is the desperate effort to evacuate the gravely wounded, unconscious Luffy: Jinbei carries him toward the sea, only for Aokiji to freeze the water and Akainu to punch a magma fist through Jinbei’s body into Luffy. A relay of unlikely saviors keeps Luffy alive — Crocodile drives Akainu back with “Sables,” Buggy snatches the pair out of the air, and the Whitebeard Pirates resolve that sending Luffy off into the “new era” is their duty. The chapter closes with Trafalgar Law’s submarine breaching the surface, Law offering to take the dying Luffy aboard as a doctor — a meeting he calls the work of fate.
New reveals
- Blackbeard channels Whitebeard’s quake power in combat (a giant tremor shockwave) in addition to his own Yami Yami darkness — the first time the manga shows one person using two Devil-Fruit powers (pp. 4-6).
- Blackbeard’s stated intent: “I’m gonna sink Marineford!!” — and a sense he can “control the whole world” (pp. 4-5).
- Sengoku defends Marineford as the irreplaceable “hub of our world” against Blackbeard (p. 7).
- Aokiji freezes the sea to seal off the escapees’ route (p. 9).
- Akainu’s magma fist passes through Jinbei and re-wounds Luffy; “He punched through Jimbei and hit Ace’s brother!!” (pp. 10-12).
- Crocodile, who once tried to kill Luffy, now fights the Marines to protect him (pp. 12-13).
- Buggy unwittingly becomes Luffy’s airborne savior and is lauded as “noble” by his crew (pp. 14-15).

Open questions raised
- How can Blackbeard wield two Devil-Fruit powers at once when the sea/devil-fruit rule should kill a normal user who eats a second fruit?
- Will Law’s intervention define a future Luffy-Law alliance, rivalry, or both?
- Why does Crocodile — who tried to kill Luffy at Alabasta — now risk himself to protect him?
- Can Jinbei survive a magma fist through the torso?
