Chapter 385: There Is a Way

Summary

At the Tower of Law in Enies Lobby — specifically Rob Lucci’s Room (caption, p. 4) — Lucci, lounging with a wine bottle, hands out Devil Fruits to CP9 so they will “grow stronger” and have new powers “for future battles” (pp. 2–5). The agents debate the gamble: you don’t know what power you’ll get, you lose the ability to swim, and folklore holds a “devil” lives inside each fruit; eating a second Devil Fruit is said to be fatal — “his body fractured until there was nothing left of it, and he died” — though Lucci dismisses the two-fruit tale as a rumor (pp. 3–4). Jabra loudly refuses and warns the others (“Kaku! Don’t do it!”; “envy and jealousy stain a man’s name”), but Kaku, Kalifa, and Blueno each eat a fruit on-page (the fruits are not named); the agents promptly transform, and Lucci tells them to identify their new powers and be ready to use them in battle on the Director’s orders (pp. 6–8). The scene cuts to the Courthouse Roof: Luffy vs. Blueno rages on, with Blueno using Moon Walk and Shave to keep pace and the Doa Doa no Mi (Door-Door Fruit) to riddle the floor with trap-doors and a disorienting Revolving Door; Luffy counters with Gum-Gum Tempest Kick and Wheel (pp. 8–13). Zoro spots Luffy “already fighting CP9” from below (pp. 12–13). Meanwhile the Rocketman, pulled by the King Bull Gomora and carrying Zoro, Sanji, Nami and Chopper, fights through the surrounding guards; Sodom has been blinded (eyes hit) and cannot see, so Gomora, running blind himself, vows to “carry them for both of us” — keeping a promise to Sodom — and barrels onward (pp. 14–19). The bull smashes through the D-Block defenses (“the Pirates’ King Bull has broken through the D-Block defenses!!”, p. 19) and reaches the square in front of the Courthouse — “We made it!! It’s the Courthouse, Gomora!!” (p. 19).

• Devil Fruits as a CP9 power-up. At the Tower of Law (Rob Lucci’s Room, caption p. 4), Lucci passes out Devil Fruits to the unit “for future battles” — Kaku, Kalifa, and Blueno each eat one on-page (pp. 6–8). The fruits themselves are NOT named this chapter.
