Whether he existed or was a dream is left open on-page (“Did he exist, or did they dream him up?”).
Ch. 1018 (p. 12): shown only as a leaping/dancing black silhouette backlit like a sun — the legend has no depicted face or named identity in-window. (Hence first_appearance: is blank — named, not shown.)
Ch. 1018 (p. 13): the legend is explicitly tied to fish-man slavery and Jimbe’s Sun Pirates (freed slaves whose history “is the history of slavery”) — folding the sun-as-liberation motif into the worshipped-Sun-God register.
