• Referenced only: his reign over Skypiea/Upper Yard is over (“With Eneru gone, they’ll have lost their will to fight,” p. 6); his gold-plated flying ark (Maxim) was lost in the climax (p. 5). Enel himself is unshown and unaccounted-for on-page; the SBS gag on p. 20 (“Oh, Eneru, Eneru, wherefore art thou Eneru?” — Oda: ”…Yes. Thank you for your letter.”) deliberately teases his fate. His actual on-page Skypiea exit/defeat belongs to the adjacent climax chapters (~298–299), not 300.

Skypiea — defeat (the Ark Maxim sinks) (Ch. 299)

• Enel does not appear in person this chapter, but his Ark Maxim is seen “going down… it’s sinking” in the distance (pp. 15-16) — the on-page signal of his defeat as the bell tolls. He exits the Skypiea conflict here (his ultimate fate / moon trajectory plays out in the cover serial, not in the main story). Still alive.

Skypiea — bell duel with Luffy (Ch. 298) — 200M-Volt Amaru / Golden Rifle; rubber no-sells again

• Fights Luffy for the Giant Golden Bell atop the Shandora ruins; mocks him (“What have you done to my kingdom come!”, “So you chose to fall, hm?”) (pp. 4-9).
• Named attacks: 200 Million Volt Amaru (pp. 5-6) and Golden Rifle (a giant lightning-charged trident thrust, p. 12). See Goro Goro no Mi.
• His lightning is again no-sold by Luffy’s rubber body — “I keep telling you, that doesn’t work on me!” (p. 7); takes a bloody hook in return. See Luffy Anchor Boy Wardrobe Tell, Enel Lightning-Logia Invincibility God-Doctrine And Reject-Dial Wall.
• INFERENCE (label): the Golden Rifle clash (KABOOM, p. 13) immediately precedes the bell tolling — the chapter does NOT show the decisive outcome of the clash; treat Enel’s defeat as forward, not confirmed by 298. Skypiea — Ch. 0297 (“Praise of the Earth”) — conjures and NAMES the giant Raigo / “Kingdom Come”; gold grounds the discharge

• Bombards Giant Jack to “sink the vine at its roots” from the rising Maxim (p. 3); taunts Wiper that lightning “doesn’t work on” Luffy and that no one can reach him up here (p. 3).
• Concedes the war’s premise was wrong: “We never had the right to claim ownership of it… Why could we not see that truth for the last 400 years?” — over panels of Upper Yard / the Vearth refusing to sink (p. 8). A god voicing the war’s wrongness. See Vearth, Sky People and Shandian War.
• ⭐ Conjures and NAMES his ultimate weapon — the giant lightning sphere “Kingdom Come!!!” (the Raigo) (p. 11), vowing Skypiea will “disappear along with the country” (p. 10). The precursor cloud amassed Ch. 295 is now the named giant sphere.
• The gold on his right arm functions as a lightning conductor against Luffy (p. 15) — the rubber-immunity / gold-as-lightning-rod mechanic at climactic scale. Skypiea — atop the Ark Maxim (Ch. 296) — “objectives achieved”; rains “Mamaragan” on Upper Yard

• Monologues that he has “achieved all my objectives” and will destroy the country and its Emperor Cloud, then set off for “Endless Varse”; “now that it’s come this far, I’m almost sad to see it end” (pp. 2–3). Aboard Maxim, riding his Emperor Cloud.

Skypiea (Ch. 295) — boards-and-blasts Luffy; names the Golden Bell Tower; fells Giant Jack; conjures a far-larger thundercloud

• Blasts Luffy off the deck of the Ark Maxim moments after he boards (“Who gave you permission to board this boat?” → “BOOMF!!”, pp. 2–4).
• Doctrine: “I’ll return everything to its rightful shape… that is my duty as the Kami” — vows to erase the whole of Skypiea, sparing not even the voices on the cloud below (pp. 3–4).
• Names and claims the Great Bell Tower of Shandora as the capstone of his ascent: “the pride of the legendary city of Shandora… the bell that ushered in 400 years of fighting… I’ll take this with me and finish my ascent to Endless Varse” (pp. 10–11) — the Maxim now rises bearing the bell tower slung beneath it. • Fells the Giant Jack vine pillar deliberately, dropping it toward the west (pp. 12–13).

Skypiea (Ch. 294) — the Raigo / “Kingdom Come” erases Angel Island

• Aboard the Ark Maxim, having “surpassed Giant Jack… so high above the kami’s temple in all these 400 years” (p. 2), Enel hunts the Golden Bell and dismisses the climbing Luffy as a “pest,” blasting the Giant Jack world-tree vine with lightning to drop him (pp. 2–5).
• Deploys his finishing weapon, the Raigo: condenses the entire sky thundercloud cover into a single colossal black sphere — the Raigo / “KINGDOM COME!!!” — over Angel Island and drops/detonates it, erasing Angel Island and the sea-cloud it rested on “without a trace” (pp. 10–14). The doomsday weapon shown swelling Ch. 293 is now executed; the name “Raigo” is still NOT spoken on-page here (formal naming Ch. 297) — but the VIZ declaration “Kingdom Come” lands this chapter. • Escalates his ambition: “With the Ark Maxim and my power, I can perform the greatest miracles the world has ever seen!! …Heaven is mine!” (p. 11).

Skypiea (Ch. 293)

• From atop the Ark Maxim, opens the destruction of Skypiea: “This is the sky… this is the domain of the Kami!! Turn all of it into rain that falls over the Blue Sea!!” (p. 8); “Kill every last person in the sky!!” (p. 12); “Return to your true place, Skypiea!” (p. 15).
• Method: blasts holes in the White-White Sea (Heaven’s Gate / cloud floor) so the islands’ people “and the City of Shandora below” fall through to the Blue Sea (pp. 14–16).
• Names the Golden Bell as his endgame: “There’s just one last thing I want from this country… The Golden Bell” (p. 17).
• Still tracking targets by Mantra: “I still hear… two voices” (p. 19).
• The thundercloud over Upper Yard swells throughout (the build-up of his later giant cloud weapon; the name is not yet given on-page). See Raigo.

Skypiea — Maxim levels Skypiea; Enel tells the Noland tale (Ch. 286)

• Maxim’s lightning destroys Angel Island / Skypiea; the Sky People flee (pp. 1-5).
• Enel begins the withheld story: Calgara’s “one other reason” to reclaim Shandora was a dear friend — Mont Blanc Noland (pp. 9-10), launching the 400-year flashback. See The Noland Legend and the City of Gold, Kalgara Had One More Reason To Reclaim His Homeland Tee-Up.

Skypiea — “Mamaragan” begins the destruction (Ch. 285)

• Aboard the climbing Ark Maxim, Enel declares “this country’s demise… will go on as planned” (page 6) and reveals the ark floats on Bilka jet Dials so flight does not spend his electricity (page 6). See Bilka.
• Ascends the Giant Jack toward the golden bell (per Aisa’s Mantra, pages 9-10).
• Opens the cataclysm: grinning “now… why don’t we… start the feast?” he fires “Mamaragan” (page 19) — a massive lightning blast over the silent sea / the Shandians’ emptied hidden cloud village. Skypiea — strikes down Sanji; Maxim damaged (Ch. 284)

• Corners Nami and Usopp aboard the Maxim (“If you want to escape… you’ll have to get through me first,” p. 11); mocks Usopp’s needle-curse with petty counters (“A paper cut in between your fingers!” / “Five canker sores on your gums!”, pp. 8-9).
• Strikes Sanji down with a “Thor!!” lightning bolt (pp. 13-15) but lets the escapees go — “they’re off the craft… but don’t they realize they’re still within my range?” (p. 15).
• Discovers the Maxim’s gears are jammed in the scuffle and must stop to repair them — “Look at what you’ve done!! … The gears are jammed!” (pp. 17-18). Buys the Straw Hats time.

Skypiea — Enel aboard the lifting Ark Maxim (Ch. 283)

• Taunts the captive Nami from his throne aboard the rising Ark Maxim: “if you don’t want to be on this ark, there’s only one other destiny for you” (pages 5-6); dismisses the two crewmates who climb aboard as “two little rats” (page 6).
• His destruction of his homeland Bilka is named on-page by the Shandian chief — “He’ll do the same thing he did to his homeland, Bilka” (page 13) — establishing Enel as a serial homeland-destroyer with a pre-Skypiea conquest. See Bilka.
• Reads/dismisses Nami’s golden-ball “blue sea weapon” lightning-conductor trick: “that’s a good idea — creating a path for lightning to pass through… but when I increase the scale of my attack, your trick will be useless” (pages 18-19). The god-doctrine “nothing can counter my lightning” framing pre-loads the rubber-immunity inversion of the next chapter. See El Thor Enels Named Lightning Judgment Strike.

Skypiea — the Maxim ships out (Ch. 282)

• Lifts the Ark Maxim into the sky. Charges the ship with his Goro Goro no Mi lightning; it rises off Upper Yard and floats over Skypiea (pp. 4-7). Declares “Nothing is impossible for me! For I am the omnipotent… KAMI!!” and “once everybody’s back… they will fear and worship me again” (pp. 5-7).
• Refuses to fight Luffy — concedes rubber can hurt him. “There is no need for me to battle you… Rubber Man from the Blue Sea… I can’t risk battling you and having you injure me again” (p. 12). First time Enel openly avoids melee with Luffy; the behavioral proof that his lightning is useless on rubber. See Goro Goro no Mi, Luffy Anchor Boy Wardrobe Tell.
• Disposes of Luffy with molten gold. “Forges” gold onto Luffy’s fist (“KACHIN …FORGE!”, “SIZZLE”), fusing a solid-gold sphere to his hand, then gives it to him as a trophy — “This golden sphere is for your valiant effort in battle… You can keep it!” (pp. 9-11) — and kicks him off the ark (p. 12).
• El Thor on the rescuers. When Aisa rides Pierre down to catch the falling Luffy, Enel calls their attempt “annoying” / “futile” and fires El Thor at them (pp. 14-15). See Goro Goro no Mi, El Thor Enels Named Lightning Judgment Strike.
• Ships out with Nami; the “desire” monologue. Departs aboard the Maxim with the kidnapped Nami as navigator, pressing her on desire — “You too must desire a future for yourself”, “What’s the fun of getting everything you desire if you’re all by yourself?”, “Including your life?” (pp. 16-19). The chapter title beat.

Skypiea — vs Luffy on the Ark Maxim (Ch. 281)

• Unveils his endgame weapon “Deathpiea” (p. 4): the Ark Maxim spews a jet stream of lightning clouds to blanket Skypiea in darkness, accumulate energy, and “annihilate the whole country” (p. 8). The ark grinds up out of the varse, snapping the Giant Jack (pp. 2–3); 神/Kami-hull engine fires (pp. 6–7). See Maxim.
• Harries Luffy with high-voltage strikes (electrified gold staff/spear, fence vaporized to ash, pp. 11–12); relies on Mantra to predict Luffy’s moves.
• States the matchup limit on-page: against his Mantra, Luffy “has nothing other than being impervious to lightning” (p. 15) — the rubber-vs-Goro-Goro canonization. See Luffy Anchor Boy Wardrobe Tell, Goro Goro no Mi.

Skypiea — Luffy vs Enel (Ch. 280)

• Learns rubber is immune to his lightning (“attacks won’t work either!!”, p. 7); reads Luffy’s moves with Mantra throughout.
• Adapts: “Luminous Forge” shapes his lightning into a blade (“think of it as lightning in a form,” p. 8-9); relies on the spear’s stored electrical heat to burn Luffy (p. 11-12); conducts through the gold to attack from behind (p. 10-11). See Goro Goro no Mi, Rubber Cannot Withstand Blades.
• Classifies the Gum-Gum Fruit as a Paramythia that “retains its original shape” (p. 8). See Gomu Gomu no Mi.
• God-complex escalates: “I am the Kami! Everything bends to my will!!” / “I am creating the world as I see fit!!” (p. 14).

Skypiea — Luffy vs Enel (Ch. 279)

• Confronts Luffy aboard the Maxim; dismisses him as “just a Paramythia [Paramecia]… completely powerless against me!!” (p. 9).
• Names/unleashes El Thor (p. 9), the “Six Million Volt Lightning Dragon” (pp. 13-14), and the “One Hundred Million Volt Varie” (p. 14) — none of which harm Luffy. See Goro Goro no Mi, El Thor Enels Named Lightning Judgment Strike.
• Learns his lightning has NO effect on Luffy because Luffy is made of rubber (pp. 15-18); his own Logia body also takes no physical hits — a two-way immunity standoff (p. 17). The payoff of the god-doctrine / Reject-Dial wall: Enel Lightning-Logia Invincibility God-Doctrine And Reject-Dial Wall (now CONFIRMED).

Skypiea (Ch. 278)

• Reveals a second sensory channel beyond Mantra: “In addition to Mantra, I can use my lightning powers to read electric signals and listen in on conversations” — range = “the entire territory of this country” (p. 2). See Mantra.
• Frames the Maxim’s launch as Skypiea’s apocalypse: “this is the last chapter for Skypiea… the last supper for the angels in the sky” (p. 3). See Maxim.
• His five-survivor prophecy breaks when a sixth figure (Luffy) boards the Maxim: “Just as I thought… It’s not one of the five survivors… It means my prophecy was wrong. How truly irritating…” (p. 17).
• First face-to-face contact with Luffy (no powers exchanged yet): “What did you do to my crew?” / Enel: “Which pieces of garbage are you referring to?” (p. 19). NOTE: no lightning exchanged — the rubber-immunity payoff is forward of this chapter.

Skypiea — Deathpiea / the Ark (Ch. 277)

• Reveals his vessel, the Ark Maxim (p. 6), to a captive Nami. The ship “runs on lightning” (p. 5) with his Goro Goro no Mi as its conduit (“I needed a conduit source for mechanical energy… I have an excess of power, but I must save that”).
• “This is the only one of its kind in the world, and only I can steer it” (p. 4).
• Names his destination: in the Maxim “we can travel to Endless Varse” (p. 7) — the Vearth/Fairy-Vearth land he covets.
• States the island’s hidden gold is what makes the Maxim work / “comes in handy” (p. 5), and that the people are “lucky” to witness a flying ship before they die (p. 5).
• Per Nico Robin: Enel intends to destroy Skypiea — “he would return everyone in the sky back down to earth” (p. 18) — and has kidnapped Nami as navigator (p. 17), heading for the gold bell (p. 18).
• The Maxim’s hull is branded with the kanji 神 (Kami / “God”) (pp. 6–7) — his divine self-styling extended to the ship.

Skypiea — Upper Yard duel with Wyper (Ch. 276)

• Finishes the Shandian/warrior assault atop Upper Yard. Taunts Wyper for “picking the wrong opponent” and warns him not to use “my name in vain” (god-authority framing) (pages 2-9).
• Reveals his electric “Lightning Beast Kiten” / “Hino Bird Zap” — a 200-300 Million Volt thunderbird shaped from his taiko drums — and uses El Thor, his named vertical lightning-pillar strike, to cut Wyper down (pages 6-14). Skypiea (Ch. 275) — power shown as lightning itself; momentarily disabled by Sea-Prism Stone; fear-doctrine

• Enel’s power is “lightning itself.” He stops Wyper’s Flame-Dial “Burn Bazooka” outright and counters; Nami narrates “the air must’ve expanded at the speed of light… he really is lightning itself” (p. 5-7). First clear in-combat demonstration of the Goro Goro no Mi as electricity/lightning. (Fruit named Ch. 266.)
• States his goal is “endless Vearth.” “As I told you, we’ll now be shipping out to endless Vearth together” (p. 7-8) — reinforces the Vearth destination / “World of Dreams” the Shandians scorn. See Vearth.
• Fear-doctrine codified. “Creatures are made to bow down in the face of terror. That’s instinct” (p. 11); closing creed “People do not fear the kami… the kami IS fear” (p. 19). Establishes terror/despair as his instrument of rule.
• First on-page disablement — Sea-Prism Stone. Wyper’s Reject-Dial shooter has Sea-Prism Stone embedded; point-blank contact strips Enel’s powers: “It’s true, I can’t summon my powers!” (p. 12-13) — first proof a Logia of his tier can be neutralized. Skypiea (Ch. 274) — first sustained on-page court; the plan, the disclaimer, and the lightning fruit

• Holds court atop the Upper Yard ruins — full-figure reveal seated on a giant orb/drum, back-tomoe drums visible (p. 7, “DOOM”).
• Disclaims true godhood while crowning himself the only god. “There is no such thing as ‘Kami’!! This is a world of humans!” (p. 12); “Kami is just a title for the governor of the country” (p. 12) — yet “A Kami in this world… there is… IT IS I” (pp. 16–17). • Deathpiea plan: will let Skypiea “crash into the blue sea,” dragging all humans down (“the foundation of this country in the sky is unnatural”); those who stay “will simply fall to the ground with this country” (pp. 6–7, 11, 19–20). The departure-and-destruction endgame of Maxim.

• Power confirmed as the Goro Goro no Mi. Strikes Gan Fall with “Twenty million volt… Varie!!” (pp. 14–16); Nico Robin/Conis identify it as the Rumble-Rumble Fruit (Goro Goro no Mi) — “the power of lightning… no human could stand up to that” (pp. 17–18). First on-page demonstration of the named “Varie” technique (the fruit-name reveal was Ch. 266).
• Covets the Golden Bell: “I already have an idea of where it is” — names “only one possible place” and means to take the island’s gold to Endless Varse (pp. 20–21). Skypiea (Ch. 273) — El Thor named; the prophecy / five-survivors reveal

• Enel’s signature lightning attack is named on-page for the first time: “El Thor” — used to annihilate the giant serpent that he says “multiple bazooka shots” couldn’t wound (pages 12, 14). See El Thor Enels Named Lightning Judgment Strike, Goro Goro no Mi.
• Lays out the Survival Game’s true rule: it runs from the moment intruders set foot on the island to three hours later, and he counts himself a player — “it’s just an amusement” (pages 16–17). Cross-ref Skypiea Survival Game and Heavens Punishment.
• Central omniscience tell: he predicted exactly five survivors out of the original 81 people and asserts “the Kami cannot make a false prophecy” (pages 17–18). The clearest statement yet that his godhood rests on near-perfect foresight (Mantra precursor). • Because six figures appear to be standing where his prophecy allows only five, he demands one of them “disappear” — “Will you fight among yourselves, or shall I obliterate one of you?” (page 18). When Zoro instead aims his sword at Enel, Enel replies “You’re the one who should disappear… A bad choice.” (pages 18–19).

Skypiea (Ch. 272) — first full reveal in the ruins; doomsday plan; ark Maxim; demolishes Shandora

• Clear full-figure speaking appearance. Introduces himself to Nico Robin in the Shandora ruins: “I am the Kami.” Long-eared, headphone-cabled design (p. 6).
• Discovered the ruins but is ignorant of their value. “I discovered it. My idiotic predecessors didn’t even notice it” (p. 6) — yet he never knew about the Great Golden Bell and has found no Poneglyph (pp. 8–9). Robin’s questions teach him what Shandora holds; he is intrigued (“You’ve read the symbols. What did you learn?”).
• Doomsday plan. Intends to use his ark to destroy Skypiea and kill everyone, then leave — “crash Skypiea into the Blue Sea,” “kill every last person… in the sky” (pp. 12–13). The ark is named Maxim.
• Orchestrated the gathering. “I invited them to Shandora! …I invited your friends!! Ya ha ha ha!!” — the survival game’s finale is staged on purpose (p. 18).

His “punishment” is the cloud-serpent (“Special Lobster Express”) that erupts from the sky to take condemned citizens to the Sacrificial Altar.

Etymology

Surface / cross-pun. His name エネル (Eneru) is spelled with the identical katakana to , Italy’s largest electricity provider — a direct cross-pun that encodes his lightning/electricity powers (Goro Goro no Mi, the Goro Goro “Rumble-Rumble” Fruit). Early fan translations romanized him Eneru/Ener in the belief the name punned on the Japanese pronunciation of “energy” (energía) — folk-etymology, but thematically correct: the man is electric power. Enel is the spelling used by most Japanese sources and the Vivre Card databook; Eneru by VIZ/4Kids/Funimation. (One Piece Wiki, Enel — Trivia.)

God-name layer. The name also reads as the ancient high-god theonyms Enlil (Mesopotamian storm/sky god) and El (Semitic high god — the root behind Micha-el, Rapha-el, etc.). This directly serves his god-complex: a self-styled “kami” whose name is built from the names of gods. (One Piece Wiki, Enel — Trivia.)

Design / mythic register. In design and power he evokes the classical Japanese thunder deity Raijin (the tomoe drums set into his back) and the Buddha (elongated earlobes). The Skypiea arc’s whole “is he really a god?” question is pre-loaded in the name itself.

Birthday goro-awase. Oda gives Enel’s birthday as May 6 — a pun on his fruit, go (五, five) + ro (六, six) = go-ro, i.e. Goro Goro no Mi. (One Piece Wiki, Enel — Trivia.)

Irony seed. The Family of D. is later called Kami no Tenteki (神の天敵, “God’s Natural Enemy”) — and Luffy, a D., is the literal natural enemy whose rubber body is immune to Enel’s lightning. The “god vs. God’s-enemy” framing latent in the name pays off in the arc’s climax. Mark as forward-canon (not on-page in 236–247).
