Ch. 285 — the plan moves from threat to execution
The doomsday-ark plan moves from threat to execution: Enel declares “this country’s demise… will go on as planned” (page 6), the full Skypiean/Shandian evacuation is enacted (pages 14-17), and he opens the cataclysm with Mamaragan over the village/sea (page 19). Ch. 283 — the ark ships out; the Bilka precedent confirms the destroy-and-leave pattern
The Ark Maxim lifts off and flies away with Nami captive (pages 3-16); the Shandian chief orders a full evacuation to the White Sea because “Enel is going to destroy this country” and “will do the same thing he did to his homeland, Bilka ” (page 13). The “destroy Skypiea and leave for the sky” seed is now in active motion, and Bilka establishes the conquest as a repeat pattern. See Bilka , Maxim .
Ch. 278 — the doomsday intent reconfirmed aloud as the Maxim launches
Enel reconfirms the doomsday intent aloud as the Maxim launches: “this is the last chapter for Skypiea… the last supper for the angels in the sky” (p. 3). The named-and-clocked weapon is now mid-execution. (Append-only; status: pending — the destruction/departure payoff is forward of this chapter.)
Ch. 277 — the ark is REVEALED IN FULL + the destination + the gold-engine tell (prop-tell)
The Ark Maxim is revealed in full to a captive Nami (p. 6) and shown to “run on lightning” (p. 5), with Enel as the power conduit (“I needed a conduit source for mechanical energy” ). He states the island’s hidden gold is what makes the ship “come in handy” (p. 5) — explicitly tying his desire for Shandora ’s gold to powering/completing the ark — and names the destination on-page: in the Maxim “we can travel to ENDLESS VARSE !!” (p. 7; see Vearth ). Per Nico Robin , the plan is to destroy Skypiea (“return everyone in the sky back down to earth,” p. 18) and depart for the gold bell. The ark’s hull is branded with the kanji 神 (Kami / “God”) (pp. 6–7). This is the chekhov-explicit + prop-tell payoff of the named-only ark of Ch. 254 : the build → scour-the-island → depart endgame is now a working vessel with a stated destination.
Ch. 274 pp. 9–11, 18 — the destination is NAMED
Enel names a boundless land beyond the sky — “Endless Varse” (Endless Vearth / Fairy Vearth) — as “the paradise I seek,” where he will create a new “Godland” for a chosen few, and announces “the time is up for my prophecy… I will now depart.” He means to leave the sky entirely aboard his ark Maxim after dropping Skypiea into the Blue Sea. The “endless earth above the clouds” registers as a destination literally not on the planet’s surface — the explicit Chekhov for Enel’s post-Skypiea departure to the Moon (Birka, the lunar civilization), paying off in the “Enel’s Great Space Operations” cover serial. Combines an explicit on-page goal (chekhov-explicit), the Vearth/Maxim etymology (name-etymology), the cover-story payoff, and the parallel-arc structure. See Vearth .
An escaped prisoner — forced to build Enel’s ark for six years — warns Conis and Pagaya that Enel will “destroy everything,” “crash Skypiea into the Blue Sea,” and “kill every last person.” The ark is named Maxim (p. 13). In the same chapter, Nico Robin watches Enel announce he will demolish Shandora as the survival game’s finale (p. 18).
This is the explicit Chekhov-load of Enel’s endgame: build a flying ark, scour the island, depart. His destination (“Fairy Vearth”) is named in following chapters and pays off (far later) as the Moon.
