Giant Jack

Structural lore — what Oda has confirmed about this. Mysteries (unsolved questions) live in Vault/Threads/; this is what the world IS.

What we know

The colossal vine / beanstalk-cloud pillar rising from the Upper Yard ruins to the Kami’s temple at its top — the route to Enel’s seat. A transparent Jack and the Beanstalk overlay (giant + sky-climb + treasure at the top), fitting Skypiea’s fairy-tale register.

  • Ch. 269: First on-page NAME of the structure“Climb the Giant Jack!!” (p. 6), as Wyper leads the Shandian charge up the column toward the Kami’s temple. Enel’s narration over a giant silhouette frames the climb as a trap — everyone will “climb to the top and perish there… the Kami’s prophecy will come true!!” (p. 7), making the Jack the chokepoint of his survival-game endgame. The naming was provisional/forward-canon in earlier batch notes; 0269 is the authoritative earliest on-page naming. See Giant Jack Beanstalk Pillar To The Kami Temple 400-Year Struggle.
  • Ch. 263: The pillar is present in the Shandora-ruins scene, with Enel seated atop the ruins at its foot. (On-page name “Giant Jack” is first spoken Ch. 269.)
  • Ch. 267: Foregrounded as the route to Enel. Wyper vows to climb it and “end this 400-year struggle” (p. 11). Gan Fall reveals he climbed it to the Kami’s temple at the top and found it “destroyed… Enel was not there” (pp. 13–14) — the prize at the summit is not where the god actually is. The priest Ohm intercepts Wyper at its foot. See Skypiea Survival Game and Heavens Punishment.
  • Ch. 268: The Giant Jack is sighted/referenced on-page as the route to “the Kami’s temple” (p. 16) during the priest-Ohm combat — reinforcing it as the climb-route to Enel’s domain at the high sky. (On-page name “Giant Jack” is first spoken Ch. 269.)
  • Ch. 278 (pp. 15–16): The Upper Yard / Giant Jack ruins are shown collapsing (“WOOOO”, “FWOOSH!!!”) as Nico Robin escapes from inside, planning to “get up to the top level” and out (pp. 15–16). The pillar/ruins structure is actively coming down during the survival-game climax.
  • Ch. 283: The Giant Jack is used as the boarding route onto the lifting Ark MaximSanji and Usopp climb the vine to reach the rising ark (“you can borrow the kuso ah-ah-ah-ah! so I’ll stay…”, “we’re coming for you, Nami!”, pages 4-10). The beanstalk-climb-to-the-sky function continues, now as the rescue path onto Enel’s vessel rather than the path to the Kami’s temple.
  • Ch. 295: The pillar is the chapter’s title (“GIANT JACK”) and is felled by Enel, dropped toward the west (pp. 12–13). Luffy and Nami’s plan hinges on riding the falling vine up to jump onto the rising Ark Maxim (pp. 16–19) — the Jack converts from climb-route to a one-instant launch ramp at the moment Enel cuts it down. Nico Robin’s group reads a message dropped from the falling vine (p. 12).
  • Ch. 296: The Giant Jack is toppled on-page. On Wyper’s order, Zoro lands a single clean “SLAAASH!!!” through the colossal stalk (p. 5), but the cut alone does not fell the leaning beanstalk (pp. 6, 10); Wyper then fires his Reject Dial point-blank into it (“REJECT!!”, pp. 14–15) and the stalk snaps and begins to topple westward (pp. 15–18) — the launch ramp Luffy and Nami mean to ride up toward the Golden Bell. Enel, aboard the Maxim, rains “Mamaragan” lightning over Upper Yard in irritation at the felling (p. 19). The Jack here completes its conversion from climb-route to the one-instant soaring ramp.
  • Ch. 301 (pp. 3–9): The toppled Giant Jack is repurposed as the rigging to haul the bell-tower (and the Golden Bell) up from the ruins“It caught on the toppled Giant Jack!! …about to get everyone to pull it up!!” The Golden Bell of Shandora is recovered intact (one side-pillar broken). See The Noland Legend and the City of Gold, Poneglyph.

Chronology / structure

A single vertical pillar of vine/cloud anchoring the buried-city ruins (Shandora) below to the Kami’s temple above. Climbed by Gan Fall (off-page, recounted @0267) and the target of Wyper’s ascent.
