- Name meaning
- ビルカ / Biruka (Funimation 'Birka'; VIZ 'Bilka' — one katakana, JP R≈L flap). NOT a free-floating fringe echo: per Fandom (citing the Enel 'Space Operation M' cover serial, color covers 470 & 472, whose murals depict the Moon races' history), Enel's destroyed home sky island SHARES ITS NAME with an ancient city on the Moon. That makes 'Bilka' a SOURCED in-canon name-tie binding Enel's origin to the lunar Ancient Civilization (the moon-mural arc) — the load-bearing thread under the Fairy-Vearth-is-the-Moon prediction. The name itself also echoes the real-world Viking-Age trading town of Birka (Sweden) — plausible but UNSOURCED, not asserted. No SBS gloss of the word's meaning located.
Structural lore — what Oda has confirmed about this. Mysteries (unsolved questions) live in
Vault/Threads/; this is what the world IS.
What we know
- Ch. 279: Bilka first named on-page. Background lore establishes that Enel’s home sky island — Bilka, which had its own sky knight — was destroyed by him roughly six years ago, before he came to Skypiea. (Filed at 279 as Enel/McKinley background; the standalone note is minted at 283.)
- Ch. 283 (page 13): Bilka named again, tying it to the Maxim’s doomsday function. The Shandian chief, ordering the evacuation, tells his people Enel “is going to destroy this country” and “will do the same thing he did to his homeland, Bilka.” This re-establishes Enel as a serial homeland-destroyer with a pre-Skypiea conquest, and that he originated from elsewhere in the sky before seizing the Skypiea “Kami” throne six years ago. See Maxim.
- Ch. 472 (cover serial, p. 1): the “Eneru’s Great Space Mission, Vol. 36” caption names a “Moon City Bilka” whose people “fled to the blue planet in search of resources.” This shares the name of Enel’s destroyed home sky island Bilka (Ch. 279), suggesting a lunar origin for the name and advancing the downward-emigration cosmology from forward-only to a stated cover caption. See Enels Fairy Vearth Is The Moon And Skypiea Shandora Trace To A Lunar Ancient Civilization.
Chronology / structure
- Enel’s birthplace / first home sky island, destroyed by him ~6 years before the present Skypiea events (per the 0279 background and the 0283 evacuation order).
- The destruction-of-Bilka precedent is the template for what Enel intends to do to Skypiea aboard the Ark Maxim — see Enels Ark Maxim Will Destroy Skypiea And Leave For The Sky.
Open questions about this topic
- What/where is Bilka, and what exactly happened there? (Named only; no on-page depiction in this batch.)
- How does Bilka relate to Enel’s “world of dreams” / Vearth destination and his lunar/Fairy-Vearth goal?

- Predictions: Enels Fairy Vearth Is The Moon And Skypiea Shandora Trace To A Lunar Ancient Civilization — the lunar-city name-share is the SOURCED spine of this prediction: per Fandom, Birka/Bilka shares its name with an ancient Moon city shown in the Enel “Space Operation M” cover murals (covers 470 & 472). Not merely a fringe echo — a canonical in-world name-tie (cover-arc payoff still uncaptured in this batch).
- Bilka — researched. The Moon-city name-share is sourced (Fandom, covers 470/472); the real-world Birka (Viking-Age Swedish town) echo is unsourced and not asserted. Confidence raised speculative→medium on the strength of the in-canon Moon name-tie.
