Chapter 241: Heaven's Judgment

Summary

Resting on Angel Island, the Straw Hats recall the warning they were given: Upper Yard is “Godland,” the realm of the omnipotent kami Enel — and “a place nobody’s allowed to go.” Luffy, predictably, fixates on the forbidden (“There’s a place I can’t go?!”) and resolves to go there no matter what; the locals beg him not to incur Kami Enel’s wrath (“the kami would certainly destroy you”). At the dial-craft engineer’s house, the crew shares a meal while Pagaya (Conis’s father, a “dial-craft engineer”) offers to repair their old Waver. Out in the dense, ancient-tree forest, Nami — testing the restored Waver — hears voices and stumbles into a manhunt: a fleeing “guerrilla” (a Shandia) is being chased by Enel’s hunters across the clouds, one of them riding a cloud skate and firing. The guerrilla begs Nami to take him aboard, but she can’t carry two on a one-man craft. Massive cloud-borne strikes — “Heaven’s Judgment” — rain down and obliterate stretches of forest (“How dare he do that to the Varse?! / It’s Enel!!”). The hunters, having driven off their quarry, callously discuss that “more illegal trespassers have arrived… a ship with seven Blue Sea people aboard,” and that the catch is too small to split four ways — confirming they hunt people for bounties / heads and that the unpaid entry fee is one billion extols per person, which marks the Straw Hats as wanted “criminals.” Meanwhile, on Lovely Street, Angel Island, Captain McKinley of the White Beret Force (Skypiea Police) raises the alarm with a “Heso!!” greeting: the White Berets are now conducting a search for the illegal entrants. Nami races back to warn the crew. As Pagaya prepares to take the Waver apart, Luffy — finally grasping that they’re being hunted — asks: “Who are… those guys?”

New reveals

• Upper Yard = “Godland,” Enel’s forbidden holy land. It is “the realm of the omnipotent kami Enel” and “a place nobody’s allowed to go” (pages 3–4). Entering it is treated as a capital offense against the god.
• Enel is established as Skypiea’s “kami” (god). The locals revere/fear him: “You mustn’t incur Kami Enel’s wrath”; “the kami would certainly destroy you” (pages 3–4). His name is spoken aloud during the forest strikes — “No!! It’s Enel!!” (page 12).
• “Heaven’s Judgment” — colossal cloud-borne strikes — devastates the Upper Yard forest (“the Varse”). Witnesses cry “How dare he do that to the Varse?!” (pages 12–13). (The chapter title.)
• Enel’s priests/hunters hunt trespassers for bounties. They run down a fleeing “guerrilla,” and afterward complain the catch is too small: “Only seven? That’s no good. You can’t divide seven heads among four people” (pages 13–14) — i.e., they collect heads for a per-head bounty.
• The entry fee is one billion extols per person. Non-payers are “illegal trespassers” / “criminals”: “Because we didn’t pay the entry fee?! No way! You’ll have to pay the entrance fee of one billion extols per person” (page 15).
• Captain McKinley and the White Berets (Skypiea Police) are introduced (page 16), greeting with “Heso!!” and announcing a search for the illegal entrants at Angel Island / Lovely Street.
• Pagaya (Conis’s father) is a “dial-craft engineer” who offers to fix the crew’s old Waver (pages 4, 17).
• A fleeing “guerrilla” (a Shandia, though not yet named as such) appears, begging the Straw Hats for help (pages 11–14).
