Etymology

ヤマ / Yama — a two-layer name Oda reads in both directions at once:

1. Yama / 閻魔 (Enma) — Sanskrit Yama, the Hindu/Vedic lord of death; in Japanese Buddhism Enma, the judge of the dead and ruler of the underworld (Yamaloka). This slots him into the Skypiea Dharmic religious-naming motif alongside the four Priests — Satori (enlightenment), Gedatsu (解脱 moksha), Shura (修羅 Asura realm), Ohm (Om / ॐ, Oda-SBS-confirmed) — and is fitting for the death-and-judgment theocracy Enel runs. (In Hinduism “Yamas” are also a code of moral conduct.)
2. 山 (yama) = “mountain.” Every one of his techniques is a “Mountain” move — Mountain Drop, Mountain Axe, Tenfold Axe, Mountain Belly, Mountain Punch — and he fights as a boulder-massed body that rolls/rams like a landslide. The mountain reading is the combat layer of the same name.

Bonus pun (Fandom-noted): the loanword “Mountain” in his attack names (マウンテン maunten) is a near-homophone of 満点 (manten, “perfect score”), with the on-page kanji of his attack names punning on it. A thematic / wordplay name, not a buried future-reveal. Confidence: high — Fandom trivia confirms both the death-lord and the ‘mountain’ readings plus the manten attack-name pun.
