Chapter 269: Climb the Giant Jack

Summary

Conis and Pagaya guard the Going Merry on the Upper Yard’s north-eastern shore, the rendezvous point Nami designated; Conis blows the ship’s horn “to ward off enemies” and “give us courage,” praying for everyone’s safety as explosions (“WOOOO!!”) echo from the interior (pp. 2-5). Inside the Upper Yard the war erupts: striped Heavenly Warriors (God’s Army) soldiers are routed and ordered to retreat (“Don’t let them reach the Kami’s temple!!” / “Heavenly Warriors, retreat!!”), while a Shandian column led by Wyper charges the central column — “Climb the Giant Jack!!” — the giant vertical vine/beanstalk-cloud that reaches the Kami’s temple (pp. 5-8). Wyper’s allies plead with him: “Don’t confront Enel!!” and “Don’t use the Reject Dial again!!” (p. 6). The exiled former God Gan Fall (“Ganfor”/“Ganfall”) on his bird-mount Pierre tries to stop Wyper — “Stop it, Wyper!!” — but Wyper rejects him: “To us, you and Enel are one and the same, Ganfor!!! You’re what?! Were you going to claim you’re not the enemy?!” — exposing that the Shandians hold the entire Skypiean “god” lineage, not just Enel, responsible for the 400-year occupation of their homeland (pp. 8-9). Off to the side, narration over a giant silhouette frames Enel’s plan — “They’ll all climb to the top and perish there. Perfect… The Kami’s prophecy… will come true!!” (p. 7). Nami, Aisa, and a tiger-striped giant serpent (Nola) crash into the top-tier ruins (“the top-tier ruins are getting a little crowded”), where the chapter’s second front opens: Zoro vs. the priest Ohm, who reveals his sword is forged of an iron cloud via an Eisen Dial — “the blade has a Dial… and pursues its target forever!!” — and tracks the heroes with white sniffer dogs (“Holy/Holly”) to dig them out of the ruins (pp. 11-14, 21-22). Aisa is nearly eaten by the laughing serpent (a horror-comedy “CHOMP!”), Pierre snatches her free, and Zoro squares off in three-sword stance as Ohm declares “…since none of you will leave here alive.” (pp. 15-22).

New reveals

• The “Giant Jack” is named on-page. “Climb the Giant Jack!!” (p. 6) — the towering vertical vine/beanstalk-cloud column at the heart of Upper Yard that leads up to the Kami’s temple. The Shandians must scale it to reach Enel. (Likely the same structure later identified with Enel’s ark setup; on-page here it is only the climb-route to the temple.)
• The Reject Dial is named. Wyper’s allies beg him “Don’t use the Reject Dial again!!” (p. 6) — establishing the Reject Dial as a known, dangerous weapon in his arsenal (referenced, not shown firing this chapter). See Dials Skypiean Sea-Shell Technology.
• Iron-cloud (Eisen Dial) weaponry. Ohm’s sword is an iron cloud: “from which an iron cloud comes… this sword is an iron cloud too. The blade has a Dial… and pursues its target forever!!” (p. 11). First on-page demonstration that Dials can produce solid/metallic cloud, weaponized as a homing iron blade. The blade reads as flexible/whip-like (“It’s like a whip, I get it”). • Wyper’s grievance extends to all Skypiean “gods.” “To us, you and Enel are one and the same, Ganfor!!!” (pp. 8-9). The Shandians regard the former God Gan Fall as an enemy on the same footing as Enel — the land-occupation grievance is against the whole “Skypiean god” line, not just the current usurper.
• Enel’s endgame restated as a trap. “They’ll all climb to the top and perish there. Perfect… The Kami’s prophecy… will come true!!” (p. 7) — Enel’s plan is to let every faction climb the Giant Jack and be wiped out at the summit.

• How far does Eisen-Dial / iron-cloud weaponry scale — is Ohm’s homing iron sword the limit, or a sample of a broader solid-cloud arsenal?
• Will Wyper’s refusal to distinguish Gan Fall from Enel cost the Shandians an ally — and does Gan Fall’s “former God” status implicate the old Skypiean order in the Shandian dispossession?
