Profile

Satori, “Kami’s Vassal” / “of the Forest”, is one of Enel’s four vassals (Priests of Skypiea) — the priest who administers the Challenge of the Ball ordeal in the Forest of No Return. He “rules over the Varse in the Forest of No Return” (Ch. 246 p. 19).

A rotund, bearded, winged figure with a ring-chain over his belly who laughs “Ho ho ho!! Heso!!” (Ch. 246 p. 12). He fights with booby-trapped “surprise clouds” / floating balls of island cloud (concealing the Sky Cracker, snakes, explosives) and the precognitive faculty Mantra.

Skypiea — Ball Dragon (Ch. 250)

Unleashes his ultimate trap, the Ball Dragon (pp. 8-9): a dragon-shaped serpent assembled from “surprise clouds — some filled with blades, others with explosives, and one is a special fire ball. Burst the fire ball, and it will set off a fiery chain reaction!” (pp. 9-10).
Mechanical weakness exposed: the surprise balls are string-controlled puppets. Luffy deduces “this thing’s being controlled with a string!!” (pp. 10-11), yanks Satori around by his own line, and over-triggers the fire-ball chain (full-width KABOOM, p. 12) — both nearly die.

Skypiea — Ball Challenge (Ch. 247)

Surrounds Luffy with floating “balls” (bubbles) whose contents are randomized and concealed — harmless balls, exploding balls, and weapon balls (spear, crab, bird, scalding river). Luffy’s Gum-Gum Pistol and Gum-Gum Gatling Gun bounce off harmlessly (“BOINK”), establishing that brute force fails against the lottery (pp. 4, 9-12).
Frames the ordeal as a lethal “survival game” with a body-count — “Life is suffering…” / “One down… two to go.” after a hit (Ch. 247 p. 17), apparently downing Sanji.

Revealed as the “Ho ho ho!! Heso!!” tormentor of the Forest of No Return; introduces himself as one of “the vassals that serve the omnipotent Kami Eneru,” ruling the Varse (pp. 12–13, 19). See Mantra.
Mantra: anticipates and dodges Luffy’s Gum-Gum Pistol and Sanji’s kick before they land — “Mantra is a power granted only to the faithful” (p. 16). His “simple”-looking blow (Collier, head kick / right leg) drops both Sanji and Usopp in one strike — “It destroys the body… starting with the spinal cord!” (pp. 16–17). Sets the ordeal’s lethal logic: the drifting boat must reach the only exit, the surprise clouds won’t let the crew board freely, and “only ten percent survive the Forest of No Return!” (pp. 18–19).

Etymology

The name is the power. サトリ / Satori carries two overlapping meanings, both pointing at his combat faculty Mantra (Skypiea’s name for Observation-Haki precognition):

悟り (satori) — the Zen Buddhist term for enlightenment / sudden awakening / clear perception. Fits the Skypiea arc’s pervasive religious motifs (priests, Ordeals, “the faithful”).

The satori (覚/さとり) of Japanese folklore — a mountain yokai that reads minds, perceiving a traveler’s thoughts and speaking them aloud before he can act. This is an almost literal description of Mantra: Satori “anticipates” Luffy’s Gum-Gum Pistol and Sanji’s kick before they land.

Oda confirmed in SBS Vol. 29 (p. 46) that Enel’s subordinates (the Priests) are named after religious concepts — anchoring this as authorial intent, not coincidence.
