One of Enel’s four Priests / vassals of the Survival Game in Upper Yard, styling himself “Sky Boss” Gedatsu (intro: “Heso!! I am ‘Sky Boss’ Gedatsu!!” — Ch. 262 p. 3). Fights with a Swamp Cloud “Burger” — a sap/Swamp-cloud mass he molds and hurls; it is “as light as a cloud and as sticky as a swamp,” and the more a victim struggles the deeper they sink — plus Jet Dials sewn into his clothes/shoes (flight) and Lethal-type Jet Dial punches (“the only drawback is that my clothes get torn up”, p. 10). A Mantra user (Mantra). Running comedic gag: forgetful / spacey, blurting “Oops, I forgot” mid-speech. Named at Enel’s temple (~Ch. 0253) and shown on-page among the summoned priests in Ch. 254; his first sustained fight is Ch. 262.

Skypiea — Pirate Chopper vs. Vassal Gedatsu (Ch. 262) — first sustained fight; DEFEATED (not killed)

• First sustained on-page combat. Engages Tony Tony Chopper in the Survival Game (Upper Yard swamp/ruins). Names himself “Sky Boss” Gedatsu, vassal of the Kami Enel (p. 3).
• Combat kit detailed: the Swamp Cloud “Burger” (sap/bog cloud thrown as a sticky mass), countered by Chopper’s Milky Dial (p. 4); Jet Dials in his clothes for flight and a Lethal-type Jet Dial for superhuman-speed punches (“the only drawback is that my clothes get torn up”, p. 10).

Etymology

ゲダツ / Gedatsu — from 解脱 (gedatsu), the Japanese Buddhist term for vimokṣa / mokṣa (moksha): emancipation, release, liberation from the bonds of earthly desire and the cycle of rebirth (saṃsāra) — attaining enlightenment. He is one node in Enel’s Priests’ Dharmic / Buddhist religious-naming motif: Satori (enlightenment / satori), Shura (修羅, the Asura realm of constant war), Ohm (Om / ॐ — Oda SBS-confirmed), and the commander Yama (Enma / Yama, lord-judge of the dead). The name is not a buried future-reveal — it’s a thematic label for the false “ascension/salvation” theocracy Enel runs over Skypiea (his Ordeals promise “salvation” via death). The Fandom Chinese interwiki files Gedatsu under 涅盤 (Nirvana), reinforcing the liberation/release reading. Confidence: high (JP 解脱 meaning is unambiguous; the priest naming-pattern is SBS-anchored via Ohm).
