Chapter 298: Love Song

Summary

The ball of storm clouds that had been gathering above Upper Yard suddenly vanishes (p. 2), and the surviving Skypieans and Shandians below realize Enel’s apocalyptic threat has been answered — they cheer Luffy on, chanting “Ring the light of Shandora! Ring it, Straw Hat! The Song of the Island!” (p. 3). Atop the ruins, Luffy and Enel duel for the Giant Golden Bell: Luffy launches toward it (“Here I come! I’ll ring it and you right along with it!”, p. 4), shrugs off Enel’s 200 Million Volt Amaru with his rubber immunity (“I keep telling you, that doesn’t work on me!”, pp. 5-7), and lands a brutal hook that draws blood (pp. 6-7). Enel pins Luffy on his golden trident-staff and mocks him for falling, but Luffy keeps coming with Gum-Gum Rocket attacks (pp. 8-11). Enel counters with “Golden Rifle!!!” — a colossal lightning-charged thrust (pp. 12-13) — and a thunderous KABOOM follows (p. 13). In the aftermath, the Giant Golden Bell finally tolls. The toll carries down through the cloud-sea all the way to Jaya, where Mont Blanc Cricket and the Saruyama Alliance hear it: “El Dorado exists… I saw a great golden city… we found El Dorado!! Mister!! Can you hear it? For the last 400 years… AANG!! …El Dorado… CLAA… was in the sky!” (pp. 14-19).
