Mysterious ocean-energy-mimicking mineral that strips Devil-Fruit users of their power on contact · found in only one place in the ocean · the foundational anti-Devil-Fruit material of the One Piece world

Profile

Sea-Prism Stone (海楼石 Kairōseki; VIZ: Sea-Prism Stone) is a rare mineral found in only one place in the ocean. It emits an energy identical to the ocean’s — meaning that any Devil-Fruit user in contact with it loses their Devil-Fruit power and becomes weakened, as if submerged in seawater. First on-page named in Ch. 169 page 9, in Smoker’s exposition to the Strawhats inside Crocodile’s V.I.P.-cage trap at Rain Dinners.

What we know (canon as of Ch. 0169)

  • Ch. 169: Emits ocean-identical energy that strips Devil-Fruit users of their power on contact.
  • Ch. 169: Found in only one place in the ocean (location unspecified at this chapter).
  • Ch. 169: Some properties are still not fully understood — canonized incomplete-knowledge.
  • Ch. 169: All Marine HQ jail-bars are made of Sea-Prism Stone.
  • Ch. 98 / Ch. 99: Smoker’s jitte tip is Sea-Prism-Stone embedded (prefiguration, identity withheld until Ch. 169).
  • Ch. 169: Baroque Works has Sea-Prism Stone in operational use as a Devil-Fruit-user-containment architecture (V.I.P.-cage at Rain Dinners) — first villain-tier deployment.
  • Ch. 169: Captures both Paramecia (Luffy / Gomu Gomu no Mi) and Logia (Smoker / Moku Moku no Mi) users simultaneously — first on-page combined-DF-tier capture by Sea-Stone.
  • Ch. 400 (pp. 10-13): Restated as the “key to freedom” device. Blueno explains Robin’s sea-prism-stone handcuffs “block Devil Fruit powers” and are “the same as sinking you in the sea” — and that the stone “is as hard as diamond,” so the cuffs cannot be forced off; only the matching key works. This is why Robin, normally formidable, has been pushed around so easily. Cross-link Nico Robin, CP9, Enies Lobby.

On-page usage

  • Smoker’s jitte — tipped with Sea-Prism Stone; renders DF users unable to fight on contact. Prefigured by Smoker’s anti-Logia jitte-combat in Ch. 99 (the Smoker Prison Bullet Anti-DF Sea-Stone-Prefiguration seed pays off in Ch. 169).
  • Marine HQ jail bars — canonized in Ch. 169 p. 10. Forward-canon: Impel Down (Ch. 525+).
  • Baroque Works V.I.P.-cage at Rain Dinners CasinoCh. 169 pp. 7-11. The cage captures both Luffy (Paramecia / Gomu Gomu) and Smoker (Logia / Moku Moku) simultaneously.
  • Punk Hazard restraint huntCh. 690 (pp. 7-8): Kin’emon and Brownbeard search Caesar’s lab for Sea-Prism-Stone cuffs to restrain a captured Devil-Fruit user (Caesar).

Why this matters

Sea-Prism Stone is the foundational anti-Devil-Fruit material of the One Piece world. Its naming in Ch. 0169 pre-loads every later Sea-Stone scene:

  • Impel Down (Ch. 525+) — the world’s anti-DF supermax prison; Sea-Stone-built.
  • Marineford war (Ch. 550+) — Ace’s Sea-Stone shackles on the execution platform.
  • Sengoku’s Sea-Stone-cuffs on captured Warlords.
  • Kaido’s capture (Ch. 1004+) — Sea-Stone restraints on the strongest Yonko.
  • Five Elders’ weapons (Ch. 1085+) — forward-canon Sea-Stone-tier armaments.

Open questions

  • How did the Shandians obtain Sea-Prism Stone (a blue-sea material) in Skypiea? (Ch. 275)
  • Where in the ocean is Sea-Prism Stone found? ANSWERED Ch. 924: WanoBasil Hawkins reveals sea-prism stone “was born here, in this country.” (Smoker Ch. 169 said only one place — location now confirmed.) See Sea-Prism Stone Originates In Wano.
  • What is its full property-set beyond ocean-identical-energy emission?
  • Who first identified its anti-DF properties? (Implied institutional Marine R&D — see Smoker Prison Bullet Anti-DF Sea-Stone-Prefiguration.)
  • Can it be weaponized in finer forms (bullets, dust, gas)? Forward-canon yes (Marineford Sea-Stone shackles, Vergo’s Sea-Stone-reinforced limbs, Five Elders’ weapons).
