Oda plants a named, dated, stakes-loaded object well before its reveal — the reader knows
a thing called “Maxim” exists, is “almost complete,” and matters enough that “this island
won’t matter” once it is, all before learning what it is.
the pattern: when Oda gives a name + a completion-clock + an escalation line for an unseen
object, treat the object’s reveal as a load-bearing future payoff. See
Maxim and Enel.
