Chapter 256: Wyper the Berserker

Summary

The Survival Game for the Upper Yard opens in earnest. A pre-battle parley collapses: Wyper, leader of the Shandian warriors, refuses Gan Fall’s attempt to negotiate, demanding the Skypieans “return everything” — the holy land and its Vearth (“Varse”). Gan Fall replies that the Skypieans cannot give it up: its presence is “a blessing to our people.” Wyper rejects coexistence, threatens to take a hundred unwilling heads as offerings, and declares negotiations off. In the Shandian camp the child Aisa weeps whenever tension rises, and the villagers gossip that Wyper “scares” people — “he’s just like a demon.” When Enel’s “Varse” (a chunk of sacred earth, “Aisa’s treasure”) is suddenly bombarded, Wyper seizes the moment and leads his warriors into Upper Yard, vowing to abandon any who fall behind: “Today… Enel’s head will roll.” In the Kami’s temple, Enel calmly games out the 81-player melee with his Priests and predicts only 5 will be standing in three hours. The Shandians charge in — and are caught in the String Cloud trap of the priest Shura, who attacks from above on his giant bird Fuza. Wyper alone slips the web; tossing aside his shield and weapon, he counters Shura’s Heat-Javelin assault with a point-blank Reject Dial blast that pulps the priest and his mount. The chapter closes on the running scoreboard: “Upper Yard Survival Game: One down… 80 remaining.”
