Summary

Continuing directly from the previous chapter, Nami and Usopp are still aboard Enel’s flying Ark Maxim, scrambling to escape on the salvaged waver while Enel zaps them with lightning. Usopp tries to buy time — distracting Enel and firing a “Voodoo” needle-curse attack — but is repeatedly struck and badly hurt; Nami, instead of fleeing, races back for him (“This is not the time to save yourself!”), refusing to abandon a crewmate. As Enel closes in to finish them both, a wounded Sanji (who climbed the Giant Jack aboard last chapter) intervenes: he kicks Nami and Usopp onto the waver and physically launches them clear of the ark, taking Enel’s lightning strike (“Thor!!”) squarely himself so the two can escape. Nami begs him to come, but Sanji has “made his decision as a man.” With the waver speeding off toward the cloud-forest, Sanji — bloodied and barely standing — lights a cigarette in front of Enel, flippantly says “I was just thinking… how I wanted a light,” and when Enel asks what he wanted to say, answers only “Drop dead.” Sanji then collapses (THUD). Enel rages at the damage done to the Maxim’s jammed gears and turns his attention to repairs; in the final pages Nami and the waver carry Usopp down through the clouds, and “Nami landed safely on the island cloud.” This is volume 30’s closing chapter — its final page is the end-of-volume SBS Question Corner. No 400-years-ago flashback appears in this chapter — the Noland↔Calgara historical flashback has not begun yet.
