Profile

The headquarters of the Marines, under direct control of the World Government. Pagoda-style architecture (oriental-roof rendering on the exterior — page 5 of Ch. 96); interior is a large banquet-hall with rows of seated Marines along a central aisle. First on-page interior of the Marines’ top-command building.

This is the Marineford-precursor era Marine HQ — forward-canonically, the headquarters will be relocated to Marineford (post-timeskip, the New World HQ is moved to G-1; the original HQ in the East-side hemisphere is renamed). The Ch. 96 interior is the Old-HQ era building.

Etymology

• VIZ: Navy Headquarters (caption-tag in Ch. 96 page 5).
• JP: 海軍本部 (Kaigun Honbu) — Kaigun = Navy, Honbu = Headquarters/Main-Base.
• The exterior building has NAVY visible on its lintel and the kanji 海軍 (Kaigun) on the architectural signage.

• Ch. 91 — first mention via the Koby-Helmeppo cover-story Vol. 8: The Ship of Vice-Admiral Garp. The sail-emblem reads MARINE / 海軍 / HQ.3 — first textual reference to HQ.3 (the third Marine HQ branch).
• Ch. 96 — first on-page interior reveal. Pages 5-9. Brandnew’s bounty-intelligence briefing on the East-Blue villain-bounty wipeout; senior Marine officer’s Absolute Justice doctrine address; wanted-poster wall display.

Grandma Nyon relays the announced public execution of Ace in six days, “surrounded by Navy admirals and Warlords” on the platform (pp. 9, 13).
• Ch. 533 — Marine muster ordered to Marineford (p. 3): Vice Admiral Momonga’s briefing puts HQ on high alert and orders all forces to Marineford for the unavoidable war with the Whitebeard Pirates, after relaying the New-World Kaido/Shanks standoff. • Ch. 539 — Marineford named as the destination of Ace’s transfer: on Level 6 of Impel Down, Ace is told he will be handed over and shipped to Navy Headquarters in Marineford for public execution — “where the gallows awaits you” (pp. 15, 19).

• Ch. 549 — Ace reaches the execution platform: at the “Navy Headquarters, Noon” caption — three hours before the execution — Ace is escorted up the stairs to the scaffold in chains and the gate is opened onto the platform (pp. 18-20).
• Ch. 550 — Full war-muster shown (“NAVY HEADQUARTERS / MARINEFORD / THE GRAND LINE”, p. 6): 100,000 elite troops, 50 warships ringing the crescent bay, shore cannon batteries, the three Admirals (Aokiji, Kizaru/Borsalino, Akainu/Sakazuki), the five remaining Warlords, and Fleet Admiral Sengoku; Sengoku broadcasts Ace’s Roger/Rouge parentage to the world (pp. 14-19).
• Ch. 553 — Marineford becomes the war’s battlefield. The Summit War opens in the bay: Whitebeard’s quake tidal wave (pp. 3-4), Aokiji’s “Ice Age” freezing the entire harbor into a continent of ice (pp. 4-8), and the first clash of Admirals, Warlords, and Whitebeard division commanders across the frozen sea before HQ (海軍 / Navy banners visible).
• Ch. 565 — The wall of steel seals the bay. The Navy raises a hard wall of steel encircling the Marineford bay — “not ordinary steel,” it does not shatter even to Whitebeard’s quake power (“Pops’ power doesn’t work on it!!”), sealing the pirates inside with a single narrow gap as the only road to the execution platform; “each group that goes through will have to face the full force of the Navy” (pp. 8-11). The Marine magma/cannon bombardment also boils the bay and burns the Moby Dick.
• Ch. 567 — “Oris Plaza” named on-page. The name of Marineford’s central plaza is printed on-page for the first time on the title spread (“HEADQUARTERS — ORIS PLAZA”, pp. 1-2) — the site of the Summit War’s main battle line, before the execution scaffold. Garp plants himself across the pirates’ path to the platform here, becoming the last wall before the scaffold (pp. 18-19). Added “Oris Plaza” to aliases.
• Ch. 575 — Marineford war devastation. Whitebeard’s voiceless-rage quake assault devastates the fortress; the Navy HQ tower begins to collapse and the execution plaza is cleaved in two by Akainu’s magma, cutting the pirates off from their captain (pp. 8-11).
• Ch. 594 — Post-War rebuilding. Marineford is being rebuilt by its workers (p. 9); the Navy HQ medical ward and proceedings room host the post-war succession talks — Sengoku’s resignation, the Aokiji recommendation to Commander-in-Chief Kong, Smoker’s G-5 transfer — and Koby’s Observation-Haki awakening (pp. 6-12).
• Ch. 598 — HQ relocated across the Red Line. Two years after the Paramount War, the new Fleet Admiral (Sengoku’s successor) moves Marine Headquarters to the New-World side of the Red Line, trading places with the G-1 branch so the Navy now sits “in the oceans where the Four Emperors (Yonko) reign”; Marineford becomes Navy Branch G-1, and the now-Marine-less Sabaody Archipelago slides into lawlessness (pp. 10, 23).
• Ch. 903 — the relocated HQ named “New Marineford.” The New-World Marine Headquarters is captioned “New Marineford” on-page (p. 14) — added to aliases. Fleet Admiral Sakazuki receives the report on Luffy’s Whole Cake Island incident (p. 8).
• Ch. 905 — New Marineford shown in full (splash pp. 2-3): the relocated New-World HQ commanded by Fleet Admiral Sakazuki; the orientation map labels old Marineford as the “G-1 Base.” The brass argue over Fujitora’s defiance (Sengoku dismissed as the “half-retired pensioner”).

• Ch. 1166 — ~38-yrs-ago Navy HQ flashback. The post-God-Valley scene: the WG’s “Garp the Hero” propaganda disgusts Garp; young Sengoku and Tsuru at HQ (pp. 10–11). Later, King Harald’s Elbaf Royal Navy ship is barred from landing at Marineford as he pleads to atone and submit Elbaf to the WG, breaking off his own horn(s) (pp. 17–19).
